My 5th homemade briar pipe... just had to keep working on pipes and now my body is sore all over!
While I'm not the biggest fan of the acorn shape, I am a big fan of making my own 'real' acorn pipe!
The experiment on this was:
Colors: stain cap, with natural nut, and a slight sanding of the stained shank-stick to give some realism.

Textures: a different rustication for the cap that I have not done, smooth nut, and a carved 'rough' shank-stick.

Stem: I turned the stem to give it a taper do I could carve the shank. Of course I have no lathe, so a bit of padding and the stem fit into a power drill.... I really need more tools!
So here she is: My 5th homemade pipe - a 'real' acorn!

Apparently one of the secrets to pipe inspiration and pipe making is resourcefulness...
For any military veterans.... The stencil for the acorn shape was actually a 1st Cavalry Division CSIB (Combat Service ID Badge for the ASU/ Dress Blue Uniform).... If you take another look at the acorn you can almost imagine the black 'sable bend' or diagonal stripe and the horse's head on the shape of the bowl....
1st CAV, 1st Team!

That's pretty cool. I had a friend years ago with another acorn pipe one time. One that will not be discussed here or anywhere!

Someday when I've finally retired, I might think about making pipes to sell. Right now I think its a creative interest and expression and a good positive form of stress relief....
But who knows?! If I get a band saw, I might step it up and start early!!! :D

I know this thread is older, but I had to post a pic ... testing my acorn pipe with the wildlife. :)
The titmouse seems to like the pipe stem as a perch....
