Too bad there’s no Fuentes!

Agreed, although it seems like TP got rid of the outstanding brands (such as Fuente, Padron, and La Flor Dominicana) well before the STG acquisition was even announced.

I always assumed it was because the 3 mentioned above have been known to pull their accounts from online vendors that offer any sort of discount on their products.

TP, when hitting the right sale, have netted me some awesome Fuente boxes, including 858 Rosados for $105/box.

When I first got into cigars, 8-5-8’s were my go to. I once paid $27 a box on sale in the early 90’s.

My order shipped.

Jeff, how do they compare to the ones from 10 or 20 years ago? They were always a favorite of mine.

I don’t know if it’s a faulty memory, or a lot of blends today have gotten richer. The Excaliburs from the last five years seem milder to me than the ones I smoked from the early ’90s through the early 2000s. The Hoyo de Monterrey Excalibur III was practically a daily smoke back then, but I cut back on my cigar intake and purchasing big time after my father died from lung cancer in 2002. The cigar seemed full to heavy back then. It seems medium today.

I still have one flat, unembossed, non-metallic banded Excalibur III in one of my humidors—I think the cigar band has gone through at least two significant design changes since that style was used. It’ll be interesting to compare it to current production. I considered smoking it on my birthday the other week, but it’s too cold outside to enjoy.

These days, I much prefer the AJ Fernandez Hoyo de Monterrey Amistad Gold over the Excalibur III; it’s a richer, and fuller smoke to my palate.

I can't bring myself to buy more cigars that I'll probably never smoke, but you should! 50% off, use the codes posted on the front page.
Sheesh, this is a deal.
Thanks for the tip! Seemed like too good of a deal to pass up. I haven't smoked many cigars since the 90s, so I wasn't sure where to start with the stock they have left. How did I do?

And ended up picking up this small humidor for storage.
