I picked up my first Dunhill on Ebay this weekend. It is marked:

475

DUNHILL SHELL

MADE IN ENGLAND

4(S)

Does anyone know what years the 475 Shell was produced or if it is still produced? I haven't had much luck on my internet searches. The seller stated it is from the 1970's. Thanks in advance!
Paul

Hey Powderkeg- Welcome to the forums!

Is this your pipe?

If so, I think its a 1959 model. Hard to tell from the photos, but it looks like a small "9" after the word england, and it has a 4(s) on it......

Here's a good link for dating those..

Hi Paul powderkeg77,
Welcome!
I believe the current Dunhill shape number 4120 is the incarnation of the old 475.

Congrats, it's a nice looking shape and good luck for your estate restoration.

1959 seems right. That should restore nicely. Hopefully the white dot is in the right spot.

Thanks guys for the responses. Frequent forum viewer, first time poster. Beefeater, yep that is it. I'll take a close look to see if it is a 9. Thanks for the link. Menuhin, restoration is complete, result were awesome (except for a heavy tooth mark on top of the bit), and the first bowl has been smoked (Dunhill Aperitif)with no ghosts. Ssjones, the white dot looks crisp and it looks to be in the right place. I'll see if I can post a pic later.
