Peterson XL90 St. Patrick's Day 2013. This was the first Peterson I ever purchased. Country Squire's Old Toby. Only one match total used. I might just make it. Wish me luck.
I did  So very close, though. If I hadn't said anything, it probably would have happened :rofl:Well you've jinxed it now haven't you?
I very much did so. Even though it finally punked out on me  Was still a great smoke, though.Enjoy the heck out of it.
Of course, it could have been this post that jinxed it... Thanks a lot, Workman! :x :x :x Quite alright, though. Was still a fantastic smoke. ::It's never too late to give up.
If it's a semi-aro you're looking for, then nay. Old Toby is a full on aromatic, although one of the best I've tried. For a semi-aro, I'd suggest Kramer's Blend For Cary Grant. It's fantastic.Seen you and Carolina commenting on Old Toby. I'm on the search for a good semi aromatic.
OK, got it. My understanding is that it's fairly sweet but doesn't smoke wet and goopy?Old Toby is a full on aromatic
Well it arrives quite moist. I'm sure some of that has to do with flavorings and all the other stuff that goes into making an aromatic. But I think a lot of it is also due to the perique in the blend. I've loaded it up pretty fresh out of the jar without drying and had a pretty decent, not terribly wet and goopy smoke out of it. But I generally do still dry it at least a little before lighting. The flavor coming from that blend is through the roof. It's an absolute joy to smoke, and the perique adds a little something extra that you don't get from most aromatics. In fact I think it helps enhance the other flavors within the blend. One of these days I'll put up a real review on the blend. My only review on the blend so far is the one I've posted on The Country Squire's website...My understanding is that it's fairly sweet but doesn't smoke wet and goopy?
My review was pretty sure and sweet, but I still stand by what I've said there. And coffee is indeed still my favorite beverage to accompany the blend. This is without a doubt one of the greatest aromatic tobaccos I’ve ever smoked. The blend comes quite moist, and I was afraid it wouldn’t burn well without quite a bit of drying time, but surprisingly still manages to burn quite well and without bite. It’s certainly a sweet one, and each draw on the pipe seems to sprinkle a little sugary mist on the tongue. The sweet taste is matched by a lovely room note promising to please anyone nearby as well as the smoker. It’s a wonderful blend for sitting outside the hobbit hole on a cool night with a hot coffee.
