As a young man I remember watching John Glenn going into space and wondering what it would be like. Mostly scary I decided. One of the true space pioneers as well as a bomber pilot and senator. Had a full 95 years I'd say.

Truly the stuff of imagination. Glen, Armstrong, and Shepherd, along with others, fueled many a childhood fantasy of space travel. A full 95 years indeed.

I can remember skipping school to watch the launch of John Glenn into space. I was enthralled with missiles and what was going on with the race to space against the Soviet Union.
And then a few years later, I didn't become an astronaut, but I was fortunate enough to be assigned to a Titan II Missile Squadron in the Air Force.
John Glenn was a true hero. RIP!

I'll have to make some John Glenn this weekend in his honor. Just in case you're wondering, a John Glenn is Tang and vodka. RIP.

What an amazing guy, a warm heart but ice water in his veins. Someone thought he was a Boy Scout for his orderly personal life. Wrong image -- in a fighter jet he was death on the wing. Found one woman he loved and stayed with her -- maybe life's ultimate revenge. Better than his betters, by far.

Heard a fabulous talk today about Sen Glenn by his former Chief of Staff (who started out as his secretary, before he ran for office).

During her talk, she said he was constantly smoking on his pipe.

I asked her afterwards if she could remember what brand he smoked... she didn't but said it was always cherry.
Cherry is not my thing, but I'm wondering what it would've been... Middletons?

Probable OTC, though he would've been within a block or two of Smokers Haven daily when it was on Gay St in downtown Columbus...

She started with him before his Senate run, which was in 1970, so thats the time frame.
