This sounds great. I would be especially interested in seeing what Russ comes up with, as I love his Dunhill 'homage' blends such as Ambassador, Daybreak and Sunjammer. I hope his Sobranie 'match' finds its way into the Hearth and Home line!

I actually met Neill tonight at my local pipe club meeting! I had no idea he was semi-famous lol.

I too hope the winning recipe is produced. One month ago I brought an unopened tin of "759" to the Las Vegas Pipe Club. This tin was also from the 1980's. Strangely everyone threatened to bring their largest pipes and they weren't kidding, myself included.
This really sounds like great fun. But to perhaps arrive at a blend that is close to "759" let alone one that has 25 years of age on it would be quite a feat. Anything close would be fine by me. And if everyone has a great time trying, that would be fine as well.

This will be a great, fun event. Samples of the Contest Blends will be available at the Chicago Pipe Show at the Friday Pre-how, and at the Show in the Mega Center on Saturday at the Throwdown table. The 5 PM judging event will be in the 6000 square foot show tent, where you can smoke and watch the judging. Beer, wine,cocktails and food are all available for purchase from Pheasant Run in the tent. You don't want to miss this!

Of course if it makes it to production there will be those who claim it just isn't near as good as the original. Even if it duplicates the original down to the microscopic level.
