I have a 31101 Dunhill Cumberland, but due to 2 different sets of numbers after "England" I am not sure if it is a 1979 or a 1981. This is what it reads:
Dunhill Cumberland

Made in England 19 21 (please note the 19 and 21 are both underscored)
It is a great pipe but I just wondered if it is a 1979 or 1981? Any help would be greatly appreciated!

It's not uncommon to see more than one date code in fact I saw one on eBay a few weeks ago with three. The pipe was finished in '79 but not sent out to a shop till '81. 8O

I've seen many with this double/triple stamping. This is what makes the Dunhill such a collectible pipe making it attributable to a certain date. The reason for those that don't know, the date was always stamped on the pipes for their guarantee one year from date of purchase against any burnout or defect in smoking.
