It being my 76th birthday, and my beloved wife having decided to abandon me for the tiny island of Kosrae in Micronesia for a week, I decided I needed some solace - in the form of a new pipe, naturally!
So I shopped around, and found this lovely little half bent apple (I've always been a sucker for short, squat pipes, although this has a good-sized bowl)at Cup O'Joes.com. Best of all, it's a Rattray's, and comes with two stems: a stubby two-incher for walking around and a longer eight inch for leisurely at-home smoking.

It smokes like a dream, with either stem, a light, beautifully made little pipe. Now I can peacefully await my wife's return.

Thanks, everyone -- and, actually, the pipes are licensed by Kohlhase and Kopp (Germany) who pay royalties to Rattray's, and are made in France by Butz-Choquin and Chacom. Next year they are planning to produce pipes in the Netherlands.

Happy birthday, 4dot. 'Way to celebrate. That's a magnificent pipe. It's kind of author shaped too. A mighty fine

looker, for a kid of a mere 76. May you look back on this day eventually as your younger days. Maybe your wife

will bring you a pipe from her travels! That would be sweet.

Happy birthday 4dot, I have a Rattray pipe myself and I love it. My local shop has one very similar to yours but doesn't have a longer stem, my son has been bugging me to get it. May have to bite the bullet next time I'm in.

Happy Birthday! Wow. What a nice apple. There's something about them that they just want to snug themselves in your hand. They are probably one of my favorite shapes.

Very nice. I have seen a few of those Rattray pipes and think they look top notch. I'm surprised you don't see them more on this side of the pond.

Happy Birthday, 4dot. That looks like a nice pipe that suits you, and the extra stem is an unusual feature.

What was your first smoke in it?
