For the first time in my 50 year old memory, we had measurable snowfall here in Maryland at the end of October. Lots of power outages in the area due to the very wet, heavy snow. I went out and cut some wood for a fire pit that was planned for this evening. I'm not sure that will still go off. All of my trees and bushes needed the snow knocked off since everything still has full foilage/leaves. Hopefully I don't lose anything (50 arbor vitea, four Japanese Maple groomed since seedlings...)

I brought out my trusty Stanwell for some bolster against the cold and wet snow.

Our West Highland is less than pleased.....

We still had roses blooming last week!

Thanks for posting the photos. Here in the Northwest, we only get snow maybe a couple of days in a year. We pay our dues with a little rain, but I'm glad for our mild temps.

Riff Raff,

Thanks for the photos they are great, and your Westie looks a bit surprised! I showed my better half your photo with the puppy which she loved, but she also had me save the snow rose photo. We are now awaiting the first storm of the season as well up here in Maine. Spent the whole day getting prepared and battering down the hatches so to speak.

The pipe is a Stanwell Colonial. It did well in the wet snow.
My parents home still has no electricity, so they're crashing here (Pap is 92).
Speaking of Bowie, we're watching Sheperd College (WV, Pap's alma mater) play Bowie State. I have a 46" HD TV, but my Pap is legally blind, so he's standing right in front of it. I had to get a picture of that and couldn't help but laugh! It could be an interesting evening...

I have to give the wife credit for the rose pictures (acutally, all). She has a 10 MP Canon Rebel SLR. She was disappointed the ones of me in front of the house were a little fuzzy, too many gizmo's on that camera for me!

I'm in Baltimore City. We had a little snow mixed with rain this afternoon (when I was coming home from Hunt Valley, it was more on the snow side though).

Trust me hobiedog, I hate snow as well. I'm in the restaurant business, snow days are typically just brutal. With the miles I drive in my current position, I dread winter travel.

Ah yes a wet heavy snow earlier way earlier than necessary. Its why I live =in Vegas now.
Side note, Westies are great little dogs. My parents had one about 20 years back and she was a great dog. They have never met anyone they don't consider a friend.

To be honest, I am quiet jealous, but I have never lived anywhere where the snow has lasted more than 3 or 4 days today. My car's thermometer said it was 86 degrees in the afternoon today, a little too warm for jeans. While must people are probably thinking I'm crazy for saying this, I really wish I lived somewhere that had seasons, ideal weather gets terribly boring. Oh well, I will be moving on when I finish with school in about 7 months (woohoo!!).
