Scanning through the Bay and came across this Dunhill. Sort of in my price range and was able to talk them down in price. Problem is I have no idea what i'm looking at value wise.

1. Authentic or Not

2. Definitely looks more than twice smoked

3. Whats it's value?
$295 is higher than I will pay and I negotiated even lower than $270. What do you guys think?

Authentic? Yes!
Smoked? It looks to me like it very well could have only been twice, although a careful cleaning can achieve the same look. Either way, it looks very clean and in great shape.
Value? Difficult to judge, but $270 is what I would consider just getting to the "high" end of the spectrum, but only because it is a Group 2, which is a bit of a smaller pipe.
My opinion: If you're looking for a Dunhill that's pretty and clean and in this shape and from this period, then this isn't a bad deal. It isn't a price worth bragging about, but you aren't getting ripped off.

That pipe is tiny and is going to burn hot. The walls are thin and not a pipe I would ever buy. The price is too high as well. There are so many better pipes out there. Are you looking for your birth year?

Yes Sir. Looking for my birth year. Thats what i figured that it seemed too small. I was thinking i probably should look for a group 4 or 3 at the smallest. Always hard to find a good one at a good price though. Seems like everyone wants top dollar or better. Which I wouldn't mind paying if I knew what a Dunhill would smoke like. Kinda the fear of the unknown. Thanks for the Info though! The search is half the fun in looking for a new pipe!

I follow that seller somewhat, as he always seems to have interesting pieces.

My thoughts:

Authentic - yes

Lightly smoked - yes

Size - I love a Group 2/3 and don't necessarily find mine to be hot smoking (but I'm pretty patient).
Negatives:

Price - he is always on the high side, at around $250, you can't complain (lightmybriar's summary is perfect)

Quality - Dunhill wasn't known for good work in the mid to late 70's, but I've never owned one from that late in the decade. The button sure looks good to my eye and taste.

It would be my first Dunhill. I suppose it does not have to be my birth year. I just figured it would be nice to have a birth year Dunhill. Being my first any way. Thanks for the info ssjones.

Well problem solved folks! Pipebuddy hooked me up with a very nice Dunhill Cumberland group 4 and a far superior pipe than what i was looking at! Thanks and close thread.
