I was told decades ago that Dunhill intentionally made batches of lightly blasted Shells from time to time that were intended for sale in Germany, where pipes with an "orange peel" hand feel were prized. I have no idea if that's true, but the guy who told me was considered an expert at the time. If so, this pipe might have been one of them.
Or, it could simply be a Sardinian bowl that ended up in the wrong box and received Shell stain. (There's an Occam's Razor corollary along the lines of, "When the choice is between a romantic explanation and human error, the latter is more likely," buried in that, isn't there?)
Oh well.
In any event, as unremarkable as this pipe is in cut and finish, it is one of the last I'll ever part with because: 1) it's my best smoking 120; 2) it was my first 120; and 3) it came to me through Barry Levin, a long-gone dear friend I deeply miss to this day.

In this pipe and other Dunhills I've seen the bend of the steam is very elegant, but I couldn't say why I think that. I always look for this in other bent stems by other makers but rarely see it.
I just took a look to compare this steam to a Julius Vesz stem and on a huge 1966 calabash he made. It starts fine but then has more of a bend than needed at the button; it points down to some extent rather than being horizontal. I can't account for why either pipes' stems strike me differently, but they do. I've also found this elegance in stems of Dunhill full bents.

That's my favorite Dunhill shape.
Btw, have I ever told you that you don't own nearly enough Dunhill's? :puffy:
