1958 birth year Dunhill search

Looking for a '58 Dunhill birth year in
Root, Bruyere, or preferably Ring. Straight preferred but not essential. 5, 4 or 3 group size. Any thoughts?

For reasons unknown, some Dunhill years are less plentiful than others. 1958 is one of the scarce ones.

They do exist, however:

1958 Dunhill Root Briar (shape 40 Lovat) :: British Pipes

The ultimate road trip shape, I think. Small, short, light in weight, the saddle stem is easy to clench, and the full-size bowl means you aren't re-filling every thirty minutes. What's not to like? In my world, "Lovat" means "Love-it!" :D

I think the door slammed on anything older than a certain date.

Let's see...

The way I understand, the date on THIS end keeps moving, and date on the pipe stays the same.

Time is a tricky business, though. Takes one a' them theoretical fizzicist guys to explain the full meal deal. Like, if you travelled to a nearby star and back in a really spicy spaceship, you'd only be a few years older but the pipe would then be a thousand years old. (Along with any tobacco you left behind! meaning Steve Fallon's great-great-great-great-great-great-great---etc. times 40 or so---could sell it for enough that you could both retire with enough to live on a super yacht).

The place to look for most any type of pipe is eBay. But be careful, you have to be damn sure the sell is reputable otherwise you run the risk of all kinds of issues.

I'm not a Dunhill guy, so I'll make no pretenses, but it is a good thing because I was born right after World War II when briar was still scarce. The briar harvesting areas had all been battle fields and theaters of war. So the briar birth year pipes at that time, with identifiable dates of manufacture, were few and far between.

Dr. Grabow had gone to mountain laurel instead of briar and moved from Chicago to Sparta, N.C., to be nearer that source. For years after the war, and even today, many pipes are stamped "Imported Briar" to celebrate the availability of briar again after the war. Before that it was just assumed that pipes were made of briar and briar was imported, and no one needed a stamp to tell them that.
