I've had quite a few old Dunhills pass through my hands, but this one is a first. The nomenclature it does have is sharply stamped. A for Bruyere, Dunhill over London, and the 112 shape code. The Reg'd number is stamped under the stem, and it has the Vernon fitment. What it's missing is the dating nomenclature, no Made in England or patent number. It's not like it was buffed off, it's just missing. The pipe has hardly been smoked and doesn't look like it was handled very much judging from the other nomenclature and the perfect bowl rim and interior. I'm baffled. At least it can be dated relatively accurately because of the Vernon fitment. Has anyone seen an old Dunhill missing the dating nomenclature before?

John Loring was the PipeWorld's most accomplished Dunhill collector and researcher, and he often said when asked about atypical nomenclature, "If you can imagine it, there is probably a pipe somewhere in the world stamped that way."
Nice piece, by the way. No doubt whatsoever that it is both legit and original, regardless of the stamping.

Thanks brother. Everything on it looks legit. I just noticed that it looks like there is some gold inlaid on the underside of the shank. Maybe it's just some gold leaf. Perhaps there was a sand pit caught late in the process and they didn't stamp it for sale, and instead filled the sand pit with gold :D
