I have looked online and I can not find any information on the pipe marker Parkway. It has 1929 hand scribed on stem and on the front of the bowl it has 2 squares cut out of the briar and a triangle etched on it. Does the 2 squares come from a vintage lathe machine? Or is this just some pipe a guy customized in his garage haha?

Parkway is utterly unknown to me. Based on the name and the “Italian Briar” stamp I’d say it was pretty clearly made for (and probably in) the American market. If you’re curious you can find a handful on Worthpoint that sold in previous auctions but I don’t think the listings add much. And ignore the Portland Parkway listings you may see along the way; clearly a different animal.

Looks like a varsity pipe, probably a diy job using whatever pipe the local store carried. Guessing they graduated in 1929 and probably had carved those spots to accommodate a fancy metal "2" and "9". Just speculating but it appears to have a theme lost to time, possibly collegiate.

Yes last picture is upside down. Yeah it is very strange someone put 1929 on the stem and out of all the things they could do carved out 2 squares and a triangle. Thank you everyone for your help!

Yeah that makes the most sense that it could of been a spot to glue a fancy metal number on to
