Japan
This was a sort of birthday present. I’d seen this on yahoo auction Japan for many months for about 110$. I couldn’t justify spending the dough as money is tight for us but I did get cash for my b-day (55yrs 7/13, yeah do we still want to remember at this point?). This is a 1920 BBB Own Make. I wonder why no one bid on this? People here in Japan bid on every other kind of pipe under the sun. Of course they love their Duns and their Danish fare. Am I missing something? I thought about this a bit, as I won’t be able to buy another pipe for a while. I wanted history. Of course it only matters that I like it, and I do. The mouth piece is especially interesting. I’m sorry I forgot to take better pictures of that. It’s almost orific but not quite. It’s a strange shape with a flat part under the slot. I am curious why this sat around the auction without being bought for so long. This seems to be a quality pipe. Does anyone have anything they can tell me, beyond what’s on pipedia, about this era of BBB? Anyone have one of these?IMG_1047.jpegIMG_1046.jpegIMG_1044.jpegIMG_1024.jpegIMG_1022.jpeg

Looks to be in pretty good shape! And it's a very handsome looking pipe!

Why no furious rush to buy? Because most people have a very limited amount of knowledge, and that holds true for collectors as well. BBB was top of the mountain at the time this pipe was made.

But even ardent Britwood fans don't have a particularly deep knowledge, they know brand names, but not a whole hell of a lot about the history of these makes. So while collectors are crawling over each other to grab an early Dunhill that could have been made in St Claude or Jura and merely stamped Dunhill, they'll ignore names that aren't as illustrious as they once were, unaware of just what they are overlooking.

I only have 1 BBB, a 335 Apple, but I love it. It smokes great & does justice to any English blend I put through it. I’ve actually smoked the same blend, side by side, in most of my other pipes & it won, hands down. That might be in my head, but whatever. I see them pop up on a lot of sites & I’m always tempted to add another to the rotation. They usually go for less than $50 American, unless they’re older like the one you picked up. I got mine for under $35. We should probably keep the fact that they’re so great to ourselves. Don’t want to pay too much for my next one!🤣🤣
Nice score on the pipe & happy birthday!

I’m interested in why they did the button/slot shapes this way and why there isn’t more variation in button/slot shapes these days.
