1810 Meerschaum Pipe

Dear Sir,
My girlfriend was going through her dad's things and came across this 1810 Meerschaum Pipe. It is in remarkable condition. I am looking for information about it and where it may have been made. It has a stamping on the top edge of the bowl. It is the letters KL. Attached are images of the pipe. I appreciate any information you may have.

That's a Germanic kalmasch.
Usually meerschaum bowl, cheery wood stem with a horn mouthpiece.

Since the pipe is likely of German origin as @OzPiper has indicated, this will make sense. I don’t think the pipe itself is from 1810—it’s likely from fifty years (or more) later given the materials it’s made with—I suspect it is a commemorative pipe celebrating the first Oktoberfest in 1810, which involved a horse race.

I agree about the quality of forum if everyone used Google and was not trying to be snarky. Regardless, I also love the PM search engine, which has different features on my tablet and phone. @woodsroad also has a decent PM search engine.

This is what's termed a "lap pipe." Yes, it's also a Kalmasch. "Lap" because of how/where you smoke it. The shank is weischel or cherry, bark left on because it has a tendency to crack, and the mouthpiece may or may not be original (they were often made of horn). This is a particular style, which nearly always has three features: the fancy metal wind-cap, the carved scene, and a date. The dates are always wrong; meerschaum pipes didn't really get hoppin' until the mid-1800s.

This style of Kalmasch with the date (not all of them have that, but most do) and the carved scene (domestic scenes, hunters and dogs or deer seem to be the most common) were often made from pressed "chip" meerschaum and artificially colored. Sears sold them in their catalog. They were advertized as being "antique-style," marketed as trying to look older than they were. It's a neat pipe, and I'd hang onto it.
