I had thought about doing this little run down of what I have learned when I hit my one year mark last month but thought I would wait until I finally got to my 500th post. Today that day has come and I wanted to thank all of you for everything I have learned and for making pipe smoking a truly enjoying hobby for me. I love these forums.
The last few months I have been trying to keep track of all of the things I have learned here and this is the list I have come up with:
1) Don't fret the relights, they are part of the process;
2) Tastes change often and unexplainably; I find myself craving an aro one day and an english the next then will smoke virginias for a week;
3) Pipe cleaners are your friend;
4) Pipe acquisition occurs without plan and more often than I expected;
5) Smoking a pipe while writing is incredibly enjoyable and helps the process immensely; my law review note was published this year in large part thanks to Dunhill London Mixture;
6) Pairing different beverages with the same tobacco can change the taste and pleasantness of a smoke;
7) Dedicating pipes to blends and styles is a good practice but can be frustrating when tastes change from day to day.
Obviously there are many more but these were the seven I think have been most important to me enjoying the hobby.
Again thank you all for helping me embrace this hobby and for being my pipe community.
