What Are You Listening To? - May, 2025

I was today years old when I found this out. Frank Sinatra's song Full Moon and Empty Arms from 1945 was based on Rachmaninoff's 2nd piano concerto. I listened to both and was amazed at how well he followed the melody from the concerto. Nice stuff for an older piece by Sinatra.

Show Off Your Meerschaum Pipes Here!

I guess I'm late to this thread. Anyway, I have just 3 meerschaum pipes, a couple of small odd ones and a sort of normal one.

Such a great group, and she's quite the chameleon with both her voice and her looks.

    A Visit to Missouri Meerschaum

Very cool pics, thanks for sharing! Oh, I was wondering if they ever used Algerian cobs for their pipes? 😜

What Are You Listening To? - May, 2025

Ready for some great electro dance music from the 80's? Great sound here including the familiar song "Oh Yeah" that has been used in movie soundtracks and ads for years. Fun stuff!

    Show Us Your French Pipes

My latest addition: a Butz Choquin Simoun, with the odd little copper plate inlay. Still trying to figure that detail out.

I Paid Too Much for a Pipe... On Purpose!

Geez o peets you guys run off the rails quickly! No one is going to lick my pipe to see if it tastes different than any other type of briar or some other material. Such cultured palates we seem to have here. Ok, I've smoked the pipe this afternoon and it was a very good smoke, in fact it was...

I Paid Too Much for a Pipe... On Purpose!

I've been reading about Algerian briar lately, and I know there's been plenty of talk on this forum about the great smoking properties of Algerian briar. So I looked through all my pipes and I couldn't find one pipe that had Algerian briar stamped on it. I do have an old Dunhill (rather rough...

    Biscuits: A Gift From God

Being here in Mississippi the only biscuits I know are the southern type. And while I like them ok, they're not my favorite thing in the world. I seem to favor toast, like English muffins, or raisin bagels. I don't know why, probably something wrong with me.... 😝

What Are You Listening To - April, 2025

Been going through some of my older cds and came across this one. Paula toured with Peter Gabriel and finally decided to go on her own in the 1990s. She has a great voice and can write some amazing songs as evidenced by this album. As a bonus, it's very well recorded too, which always makes...

Show Us Your Oldie But Goodie

I've had so many pipes that have come and gone that I can't believe I still have this pipe. It's the first pipe I ever bought in 1982. Just a basket pipe stamped Italy on the bottom of the shank. It's been a dependable smoking pipe since I've had it and I've never had any reason to get rid of it.

    Another fave by Jinjer.

    Pentax Cameras are Bargains

I've enjoyed Pentax cameras for many years. These are the three I have left, all screw mount cameras. I never got into the K-mount cameras, as I switched to Nikon in the late 1960s. Still, I couldn't get rid of these wonderful old cameras. From the left, a Spotmatic with a 50mm 1.4 Super...

    Tinderbox Verona Naturale

I like your Verona pipe! I've had both Mauro Armellini and Verona pipes in the past but never hung on to them for some reason. However, I've had this Mauro Series II made by Armellini for at least 15 years and I really like it. Yes it's a more traditional style than most of their pipes and maybe...

Clean Up on a BC Simoun

I've seen these pipes come up a few times over the years, and always thought they were interesting. I know Butz Choquin went out of business back in 2019, but was always curious about this line from them. I don't know what the purpose of the copper inlay is. It's kind of an odd shaped bit of...

Show Us The One Pipe You Will Never Part With

I got this Ashton just after my wife passed away because it reminded me of her. Small and pretty.

What Are You Listening To - April, 2025

Another golden oldie. Happy Rhodes has a pretty amazing voice spanning 4 octaves. She's the only singer on this album so there has to be some multi-tracking in the recording as she's singing the low parts and the high parts, but man it's interesting music!

What Are You Listening To - April, 2025

A favorite of mine for years, but this is one of the more interesting versions of it, especially the last movement. Lots of shouting!
