I have picked up your habit of wiping out the chamber with a set paper towel long ago. Given what others said below, it appears I'v never experienced a problem breaking in a new pipes--the current new 106 Irish Harp is a great smoker.- sparrowhawk

Has anyone run into these new charcoal filter bags that supposedly clean the air of musty odors? One brand goes by the name of NatureFresh, and is made from banana tree ashes. Do they work? More importantly, do they lessen pipe tobacco smoke?- sparrowhawk
