A Cheap, but Maybe Worthy First Briar?

The stem is oxidized and it might taste bad. Take a look at the fully restored pipes at BackyardBriar.com.

    What's Your "White Whale" Pipe?

A first production "Kaywoodie" by KB&B and a mint "Blue Line" KB&B with its original hard leather case. I guess I could use a first production Matched Grain seven day set as well.

    Favorite Bourbon Whiskey?

Maker's is just not all it is cracked up to be. It is not terrible, but it is definitely not worth the price! What I drink: - Buffalo Trace > mixing - Eagle Rare > neat / rocks - Woodford Reserve > neat / rocks - Knob Creek > rocks

    Penzance in Stock

Since this tobacco seems to be out of stock everywhere already and also in high demand, I have placed a new 8oz bag on BriarBid. Penzance Tobacco for sale

Then I wouldn't have a pipe rest collection, would I?

    Pipe Stand Collection - Comoy's / Dogs / Chairs / Syroco Wood

Here is my full collection of pipe rests all on one table. It contains the line of Comoy's pipe rests with the foil logo stamp on the bottom, some syroco wood pipe rests featuring the chairs, any dog pipe rest from the '20s - '30s, and black metal animals with gold accents. If anyone can help...

"Clean and Ready To Smoke" Rant and Warning

The problem with misrepresented pipes and unclean estates has been too common of one. That is why I created BackyardBriar.com I think it would be a wise and good thing to hold estate pipe dealers accountable. But for sellers who are merely selling estate property, you cannot expect them to be...

    Kaywoodie: Help With Model?

I can see the faint Kaywoodie stamping from your picture. The shape is 98S and it is post 1955.

    Tobacco That Doesn't Need Drying

For your situation I am just going to give some advice that would work for any tobacco if you choose to have it dried out. Buy the cheap pipe wind caps that have side spring clamps which clamp to the inner bowl. Fill your bowl ahead of time and put the wind cap on. Then when ready to smoke it...

    All-Briar Pipe

Yes, it is all briar. First made and successfully marketed by KB&B (Kaywoodie). I think it was short lived, 1950-55, because of the issue with the wood wearing away from heavily batting stems. That is why a pristine condition Kaywoodie All briar is worth so much now.

    Your Favorite Pipe Smoking "Tip"

Mine is going to be more of a tip in conditioning your pipe than in the act of smoking it. After you have finished smoking all of the tobacco in the bowl, assuming you have never dumped ash since you began smoking, take your tamper and disturb the tightly bound ash very gently. Then cover the...

    Radice?

I love Radice designs, particularly the faux bamboo stems. I just can't afford high grade pipes yet and the only one I have gotten to smoke was an estate that had a little bit of burnout. The bottom exterior of the bowl got to hot for me for that reason and so I let it go. But that does not say...

    Pad and Accessories

I love bamboo shanks and that looks excellent with that rustication. This must be an estate. You can't get Kriswell new anymore can you?

    Olive Wood?

Mario Grandi also makes some nice Olive Wood pipes but I have not smoked them. You can only purchase new Mario Grandi pipes on eBay from the seller futurepipes.

    Pipe Lighter Reccomendations

I have to put in a down vote for Zippo. I can't stand the taste. I use a butane lighter, which some may also complain about the taste from that. But the Vector pipe lighter is a good one. There is a article on Selecting a pipe lighter I found and here is an article from Pipes Magazine on pipe...

    Whiskey Stones

The phrase "On the rocks" came from the Scottish pulling cold pebbles out of the river bed and dropping them into their glasses of scotch to chill the drink. The little bit of spring water helped open it up and dilute it a bit. So now these freezer pack like "rocks" are out on the market to...

Anybody Here Having/Had a Hard Time With Forgetting How To Smoke Right?

Consider your variables: Different Pipe[/*]Different Tobacco[/*]Weather/Humidity[/*] All of these can make a difference. Make sure you give your pipe at least a days rest between smokes to avoid your problems. The density of the packed tobacco will change based on the type of tobacco and cut...

    Whats Your Favorite Frogmorton Blend?

On the Bayou is probably my favorite, but the original is very close behind. I found On the Town to be terrible. But I do not like aromatics at all. Cellar Reserve tasted good and smoked well but did not live up to my expectations as a naturally infused flavor tobacco. I thought it could have...
