***What Are You Smoking, December 2025?***

Black coffee, a book, and some McConnell's Scottish Cake in my new Stanwell billiard. A weekend just couldn't start any better than this.

    Things I Found Thrifting

Found a Falcon pipe in its box for 3 euros at a local market. It is all unused, but the bowl in the middle which seems it has been used at least once on another stem.

    Smoking side effects

Dreams reflect our state of mind rather than smoking, or anything else (weed is an exception to this).

    Pipes are Like Cats

Smoking a tobacco pipe is something that you let it set in. Run after it and you will ruin the relaxing essence of it. Let things happen one at a time. And the more you let it set in, the more joy you discover, being flavors, paced puffing, et.al.

    Filter life

Tobacco pipe smoking is a very personal thing. Filters affect the taste of the smoke. You try them, and you decide you like them or not. Me, depending on the blend and how wet it is, I might use a filter (active carbon, balsa, or none). If I cannot wait for some pretty moist mixture to dry, I...

    When Building Cake

I do the same. I use a short wooden rod as a tamper. At the end of the smoke I wrap one end with a paper towel and wipe the bowl. A few twists singing: "How deep is your bowl? How deep is your bowl? I really mean to learn..." Et voila, a clean not really smelly bowl with a shiny cake as thick...

Stupid Things You Notice About Yourself?

Overly, I hate it when people leave their thinking to others. But, I admit when things get nowhere at work, I resort to it (not ChatGPT, but Claude, same s### different color). Sometimes I got a breakthrough using it and sometimes more trouble. I have never used an AI for chatting. My...

    What are You Reading Now?

I still recall the first couple of tries to read the book. I was torturing myself into reading it. It is so dense, and implies so many that one must devote hours of focused reading over it. I also recall the relief finishing reading it long ago. Now, with a more matured mind (?), and already...

Is It Really Necessary To Rotate Pipes? My Opinion!

It depends on the pipe I use. If it is of my "precious" ones, I let them rest. The others, my go to, cheap, beaten up ones, just get refilled and keep going many times a row, or a day. When it comes to cleaning them though, I do clean them thoroughly no matter precious or not.

    Things I Found Thrifting

No info on Pipedia for these too. I found, however, just a short piece of information in a book about Captain Smith pipes:

    What about half-smoked bowls?

When things get unexpectedly busy, I put down the pipe, get things done, and when the clouds are gone I get back to the peaceful puffing of my bowl. It is some sort of rule for my smokes; never rush things, enjoy it to the very last of it (sometimes even the very last of the dottle).

    Tongue burn question

The first thing one encounters when starting to smoke tobacco pipes is the tongue burn. Not only it took me a while mastering it, but I get me a tongue bite now and then, when trying new blends, or unfiltered, or I get disturbed by others and start puffing quickly to get the bowl done. Take your...

    Things I Found Thrifting

A rarish find, a Captain Smith pipe I’ve been walking through the flea market at Monastirion (Athens/Greece) last Sunday and among all the stuff I brought home was a Captain Smith pipe. For less than the price of a coffee for an unsmoked pipe, I just couldn’t say no. At home, after sanitizing...
