    Dunhill Shells

I don't care for rusticated or carved pipes, but a nice sandblast is a beauty. It enhances the natural character of the wood, IMO, the same way a smooth finish does.

Anyone Gonna Be Watching Tucker's Interview With Vladimir Putin?

Meh. Can't get excited about it. It's all manufactured for control and money, anyway. Cynyr is cynical.

City Club Pipes... Any info at all is appreciated

"Imported Briar" means "Made in USA" and post-war. Maybe the City is New York! That's as far as my detection skills go. Someone here has the answer, though. That's an impressive hunk of briar, too!

City Club Pipes... Any info at all is appreciated

Scully, I was thinking of a GBD sub-line, but that was "City deLuxe". Are there any other markings, at all? "City", in Pipeworld, almost always means London.

    What are You Reading Now?

Not so much "reading" it, as it is a dictionary, but it's propped up at the breakfast table for browsing. Dang, I loved those books!

How to buy a Good Estate Pipe

This is because of pipemakers experimenting with "mission briar" during the war. It wasn't popular, for several reasons, so the post-war buyer wanted to be sure. Clearer and more succinct than I was able to say it. The more pictures, the better. Four crappy pictures means, at best, an amateur...

How to buy a Good Estate Pipe

There is a LOT of great knowledge on this thread. Two things stand out: - Being aware of the history of the brand. That means study, a lot of it. For some reason, pipe smokers seem to love research, and thrive on sharing arcane facts. As a result, there is plenty of good knowlege out there...

    Pipe Sighting at the Movies

The great Donald 'Duck' Dunn, RIP. I watched a very good movie last night called Bertie and Elizabeth. In one scene, King George VI meets with Clement Atlee, who is smoking a silver-mounted full-bent. The King mentions that Atlee once gifted him this pipe with a "self-cleaning gadget".

    Yet Another Kaywoodie Dating Question

I agree, that should clean up nice and be a valued addition.

    Zippo Yellow Flame Pipe Insert

The Zippo butane insert has a huge, non-adjustable flame. I have one, and I like it, but it's a big flame.

Developing a Taste for Pipe Tobacco?

The world of the Codger Blend was smaller than we remember it. Where I grew up there were two small neighborhood stores, five miles apart. Both were served by Hawk Grocery Co, from the city, and Hawk delivered to all the tiny stores in the county, weekly. As long as Hawk offered it, the Local...
