    Questions for Leonardw

So the good news is, nothing from either the the STG or Mac Baren portfolios is being delisted in the UK. As far as why Mac Baren never introduced the HH blends in the UK... I don't have any true insight there. Prior to the acquisition, STG actually distributed in the UK on Mac Baren's behalf...

    Questions for Leonardw

The Peterson blends are doing quite well actually, and nothing is being discontinued there. The U.S. is the biggest market for the brand, but it's also sold in 30+ other countries,

    Questions for Leonardw

    LNF absolutely contains perique.

    Questions for Leonardw

I honestly have no idea. I'm not even sure how long 507C has been around. Somebody wrote a description years ago for some reason and the description stuck I suppose.

    Questions for Leonardw

I assume you are mostly referring to base blending components such as perique, latakia etc. Without getting into the item by item portfolio just yet, some of them they may have to source from another vendor (rhymes with Hormel and Veal). If for whatever reason there was no other source for a...

    Questions for Leonardw

All of this is a bit tricky. Attempting to provide concise explanations can create additional confusion, as is the case with the 1,000 lb. example. Discussing anything FDA related on a public forum is always tricky for a multitude of reasons. Discussing purported internal documents that may or...

STG Mac Baren/Sutliff Purchase - A Few Words from STG's Leonard Wortzel

I'm pretty in the loop on all this stuff, and the only place I've heard anything about equipment is from the forums. Correction: Sutliff has and extremely old cutter on display in their foyer, and we've talked about making sure that finds a home so it will be preserved.

STG Mac Baren/Sutliff Purchase - A Few Words from STG's Leonard Wortzel

Folks, nothing about this is easy or fun. I'm here so you can vent to human. So do that if you feel the need. But please try to be respectful to one another.

STG Mac Baren/Sutliff Purchase - A Few Words from STG's Leonard Wortzel

I've been focused on the international business and some other areas for the past couple of years, so it's just popping up on my radar (vs. the organization's).

STG Mac Baren/Sutliff Purchase - A Few Words from STG's Leonard Wortzel

That's actually a very fair assumption, but not correct in this case. No one across the pond knew what I was posting or even that I was posting at all. I figured I'd go with forgiveness instead of permission on this one. I'll let you know how it works out...

STG Mac Baren/Sutliff Purchase - A Few Words from STG's Leonard Wortzel

Fair point, but I'm not sure it is as obvious from the worker's point of view. I was standing in the front of the room beside the president of Sutliff the day we announced the factory would be closing. He very eloquently made the point to all of them that this decision was not a result of any...

STG Mac Baren/Sutliff Purchase - A Few Words from STG's Leonard Wortzel

I actually just heard about that issue a couple of weeks ago. Our Q&A team is digging into that.

STG Mac Baren/Sutliff Purchase - A Few Words from STG's Leonard Wortzel

Not jerky at all. Started the thread so people can ask the questions they want to ask. I'll probably just frustrate more people by still not being able to provide 100% of the answers. All a pipe smoker can do is try.

STG Mac Baren/Sutliff Purchase - A Few Words from STG's Leonard Wortzel

Fair questions. For now let me hold off on going through blend by blend. The reality is that while 99% of the decisions have been made, the full list is not final. Even if we've recommended keeping X,Y,Z, we still need to analyze FDA status in some cases (for instance).

STG Mac Baren/Sutliff Purchase - A Few Words from STG's Leonard Wortzel

For all blends that remain, they cannot change due to FDA regulations.

STG Mac Baren/Sutliff Purchase - A Few Words from STG's Leonard Wortzel

It does for the timing being come down to the question of scale, but also market availability. If STG/Sutliff/Mac Baren was the only source for things like Latakia, perique, etc., that would create serious issues. That is not the case. And again, the decisions don't need to be permanent. If...

STG Mac Baren/Sutliff Purchase - A Few Words from STG's Leonard Wortzel

Yes, 1,000 lbs is a small amount. In a modern factory, it's difficult to get the cutters working effectively below that. To the point of your second question, does the STG facility have the space, capacity and capability to set up a smaller blend and cutting line? Yes. Might we decide to do so...

STG Mac Baren/Sutliff Purchase - A Few Words from STG's Leonard Wortzel

Hello All: Pardon the length of this post, but I figured I’d jump in to provide some clarity / serve as a human punching bag regarding STG’s purchase of Mac Baren/Sutliff. It’s been a while since I’ve posted here, so a quick introduction. I’m Leonard Wortzel. I’ve been a pipe smoker for 30...

    Lane Limited Closing ... Article

Hi All: As mentioned above, the real impact here is on the folks at the factory. There is never a good way to handle these things, but there certainly are bad ways. I'm pleased that the company essentially gave everyone a year's notice vs. springing the news on people at the last moment. As far...
