***What Are You Smoking, December 2025?***

Never seen a cat look happier :)

    Show me that workhorse pipe!

    It's a Meer, I promise you :)

    Show me that workhorse pipe!

This feller. A 'Makonde' straight Rhodesian, made of Tanzanian Amboseli Meerschaum by theKilimajaro Pipe Company Ltd. with a Vulcanite stem. It's a survivor - had some rough treatment in its 50 to 70 years, looks like it's been brutally reamed, clenched, carried in a pocket with loose change...

***What Are You Smoking, December 2025?***

Peterson's Nightcap again, this time in a pipe which came this afternoon, offered on eBay as a clay and one of a pair, both unsmoked, for which I paid just over a tenner. I had a strong suspicion that this one was a Meer and, praise be! It is!! Pressed, not block, but even so... not bad for £5...

    Peterson's Nightcap From A Non-Orientalist Perspective

An habitual Virginia/Burley/Kentucky/Perique smoker who has not touched an Oriental leaf for years, I thought maybe I was getting too set in my ways, and, intrigued by the clash of opinions about it, I resolved to purchase a sample pack. Broadly speaking, I concur with Mr. Muttonchop on YouTube...

***What Are You Smoking, December 2025?***

You are assuredly regarded as some kind of saint among the congregation of the Holy Catlick Church :)

***What Are You Smoking, December 2025?***

Hadn't smoked anything with Oriental in it for years, so this soggy Marches morning, a trial puff of Peterson's Nightcap in the little unmarked Meer prince. Before breakfast. What a rebel I am. I shall express my estimation of it on the appropriate forum in due course. Suffice to say now, it has...

So... What OTHER Hobbies Occupy Your Time?

Gardening, especially things you can eat - mostly heirloom fruit and vegetables and unusual stuff you can't buy most places, such as skirrets, salsify, achocha and so on. I also breed new varieties of potato raised from the seeds from the fruits that the flowers develop: out of 80+ new cultivars...

    Show Off Your Petersons Here!

Very pleased to have won this at auction - it arrived this afternoon. A D6 with silver collar and fishtail faux-amber stem. No idea how she smokes yet.

***What Are You Smoking, December 2025?***

Rattray's Marlin Flake in a Stanwell 232. Finally learning how to smoke this. Impressions of a bread and butter pudding seasoned with pepper and vinegar, and a hint of Yuzu fruit right at the end. I am pleasantly surprised.

    Anyone Tried Smoke-King UK?

Thanks for the heads-up on the RDF. Just gave them a call and ordered some for myself :)

    Pipe Shape Subtleties........

"Bent Albert". That's a new one on me. From an old Peterson catalogue? And named after some scion of the British royal family, I'd guess, like the 'Prince' shape.
  13. MisterBadger

    Pipe Shape Subtleties........

Yep. That's why they are my preferred design - I also like the aesthetic: what the ancient Egyptians called 'ma'at' = a word with no equivalent in English - something beautful because it is perfectly functionally fit for purpose. If they'd had pipes then, I'm sure they would have been Zulus. At...

    Pipe Shape Subtleties........

Here's Here's one I can answer: A Yachtsman is a Zulu which is also a Woodstock... https://www.pipe.fr/en/zulu-267 "The Zulu shape, often compared and mistaken with the Dublin pipe (because of its flared bowl), the Prince pipe (because of its slight bent), or the Cutty pipe (for its inclined...

    🌟 🎄 🎅 The UnOfficial Official 2025 PM Secret Santa Thread 🎅 🎄 🌟

Hey! Don't you bottom-of-the-bottom-list me, Mike! I despatched to my completely and utterly confidential mystery match on 25th November, and posted here to that effect on the same day. Herrumph!

    What Were Your Go-To Tobacco’s in 2025?

From the numbers of empty tins: Peterson's Irish Flake McConnell's Scottish Cake Peterson's Irish Cask HH Old Dark Fired However, I buy a lot of tobacco loose and/or in twist form, so I'd have to include Gawith Hoggarth Brown Pigtail and Black Irish Twist, Tabac Manil Semois La Volute...

    Anyone Tried Smoke-King UK?

I also use Smoke-King more often than not. Reliable, efficient, quick despatch, and (for UK) reasonably priced. I can also say the same for GQ Tobaccos.

***What Are You Smoking, December 2025?***

Finished the McConnell's Black Parrot this evening (hooray!), eked out by a generous addition of Rattray's Marlin Flake, in the Peterson Irish Army 999 'John Bull' bent Rhodesian. Result: a proper Va/Per smoke, and I wish now to apologize to Rattray's for all the bad things I said about MF last...

    Your Favorite Pipes?

The ones I don't even have to think about, but grab when running out the door? Right: those would have to be the ones that 1) smoke well, 2) are fairly inexpensive and replaceable, and 3) are appropriate for where I'm going and what else I'm about to be doing... When I'm on the farm and...

***What Are You Smoking, December 2025?***

McConnell's Black Parrot in a Peterson Irish Army 999: well, I bought the stuff, so I'm dam' well going to finish smoking it all before I allow myself to go on to anything else... this time, to my surprise, I could taste the previously-undetected Perique, which I assume is because of the...
