    Folding And Stuffing Flakes

I just had a bloody awful smoke of 1792 Flake. Usually I rub it out and let it dry for about 15-30 minutes but yesterday I read something about folding and stuffing for a different flake experience. I didn’t dry the flake and just folded and packed the pipe. I just could not keep it alight...

    Really hot smoke

I recently got a small barrel Peterson “specialty“ pipe for shorter smokes. Today I decided to smoke some Peterson De Luxe Navy Rolls in it. I used the fold and stuff method and it smoked really nicely. However, the bowl got hotter and hotter until I could no longer hold it and had to hold the...

Smoking To The Bottom Of The Bowl

It definitely depends on the tobacco for me. I just smoked a pipe of Ennerdale mixture and got virtually no nicotine buzz.

Smoking To The Bottom Of The Bowl

Since starting this thread I’ve gotten a few more pipes 😂 and I’ve really been concentrating on using the breath method and/or sipping the smoke. I don’t get a wet mess in the bottom of the bowl, probably because most of my pipes are filtered and most of the moisture seems to congregate there...

    Ozark Mini Question

I got hold of an MM Ozark mini primarily as a pipe for my fly fishing forays this summer. I wanted something small and light that would give me about a 10-15 minute smoke when I took a break. I really love this pipe and it’s tiny, and far smaller than I imagined but on my test run with it loaded...

In Love With My New Peterson

    Wow, what a great collection!

How long to smoke a bowl?

It is! Geez, I can totally get where you’re coming from because I used to be exactly the same as you. Things changed for me with 2 things, 1) I started using Peterson's with P-lips and 2) I slowed right down and learned the ‘breath method’. The p-lip directs the smoke to the roof of the mouth so...

    Curry Half and Half

Aahhhh, so that’s what the guy in Benidorm meant. “Rice AND chips tonight!” 😂😂

In Love With My New Peterson

Just enjoying the Hudson. It’s a really gorgeous pipe. I know the P-lip seems to be a love it/hate it thing but I really find it strange that it seems maligned by some folks. It’s really no different to hold in the mouth and smoke than any other pipe I’ve had in the past. I just find the...

In Love With My New Peterson

My next Pete was a Sherlock Holmes ‘Hudson’ which I love as well. I just can’t get over the comfort of the Emerald though when clenching. The balance is perfect.

Smoking To The Bottom Of The Bowl

The new Peterson Emerald I have will smoke to the bottom of the bowl especially now I’m using the breath method. That’s great with some tobacco I have, like Old Dublin but with my Erinmore it still gets bitter towards the bottom so I just stop. It’s only a tiny bit of baccy I’m losing now.

Smoking To The Bottom Of The Bowl

Yes, I’ve found that the breath method which involves a gentle ‘exhale‘ (for want of another word) does keep the pipe going. Along with gentle tamping throughout the smoke it definitely keeps the pipe going. I only need to relight now as I get towards the bottom of the bowl. But, depending on...

In Love With My New Peterson

What do you think of the “system”? I’m considering getting one but actually prefer filtered pipes now so I can’t make up my mind to take a risk on one or not.

    Hello From Sussex, England

Welcome from a born again noob. A Falcon was my first pipe as it happens. It wasn’t out of choice, it was all the local newsagent stocked!😂 I lost track of it, along with my meershaum many years ago unfortunately.

In Love With My New Peterson

I’ve looked at system pipes I prefer to smoke with a filter but I could be tempted.

In Love With My New Peterson

That’s my old Zippo that I etched and engraved for myself (I’m an engraver by trade) about 25 years ago. It’s stood up well to a lot of use and abuse in that time. Even when I quit smoking I still use it a lot for work. My only regret is I only embellished one side.

In Love With My New Peterson

I’m really tempted by the Sherlock Holmes ‘Hudson’ I must admit.

In Love With My New Peterson

I can clench and smoke the pipe for ages without removing it from my mouth. Unless you’re just putting the mouthpiece between your lips and sipping I find the P-lip is as easy to smoke as the regular mouthpiece. I honestly don’t see why anyone would have any difficulty smoking it.

    What Peterson Should I Get?

Try Muttonchops’s “breath method”. You breath through your nose but use your mouth to sip in and push out the smoke. He describes it as “the action of using mouthwash”. Once I understood that it is so easy to do. It’s brilliant and it keeps your pipe alight to😃

Smoking To The Bottom Of The Bowl

I find with the new Peterson it will smoke right to the bottom of the bowl with none of the bitterness I used to get. Like you, I’m definitely a filter convert. I don’t know how people can say it ruins the flavour of the smoke; in my experience I think it’s better. I haven’t tried (or even...
