I just had a bloody awful smoke of 1792 Flake. Usually I rub it out and let it dry for about 15-30 minutes but yesterday I read something about folding and stuffing for a different flake experience. Since starting this thread I’ve gotten a few more pipes 😂 and I’ve really been concentrating on using the breath method and/or sipping the smoke. I don’t get a wet mess in the bottom of the bowl, probably because most of my pipes are filtered and most of the moisture seems to congregate there...- steelarts

It is! Geez, I can totally get where you’re coming from because I used to be exactly the same as you. Things changed for me with 2 things, 1) I started using Peterson's with P-lips and 2) I slowed right down and learned the ‘breath method’. The new Peterson Emerald I have will smoke to the bottom of the bowl especially now I’m using the breath method. That’s great with some tobacco I have, like Old Dublin but with my Erinmore it still gets bitter towards the bottom so I just stop. It’s only a tiny bit of baccy I’m losing now.- steelarts

Yes, I’ve found that the breath method which involves a gentle ‘exhale‘ (for want of another word) does keep the pipe going. Along with gentle tamping throughout the smoke it definitely keeps the pipe going. I only need to relight now as I get towards the bottom of the bowl. But, depending on...- steelarts

That’s my old Zippo that I etched and engraved for myself (I’m an engraver by trade) about 25 years ago. It’s stood up well to a lot of use and abuse in that time. Even when I quit smoking I still use it a lot for work. My only regret is I only embellished one side. -

I can clench and smoke the pipe for ages without removing it from my mouth. Unless you’re just putting the mouthpiece between your lips and sipping I find the P-lip is as easy to smoke as the regular mouthpiece. I honestly don’t see why anyone would have any difficulty smoking it. -
What Peterson Should I Get?
Try Muttonchops’s “breath method”. You breath through your nose but use your mouth to sip in and push out the smoke. He describes it as “the action of using mouthwash”. Once I understood that it is so easy to do. It’s brilliant and it keeps your pipe alight to😃 -

I find with the new Peterson it will smoke right to the bottom of the bowl with none of the bitterness I used to get. Like you, I’m definitely a filter convert.
