    Why are estate pipes ok?

I've never tried a stinger before. But I should look into some German shops for future purchases then. I just really hope all this tariff nonsense settles down here in the states. Repeatedly arbitrarily announced and rescinded so many times I can't even begin to keep track. Don't want to get too...

    Gurgling

There's so many variables, between how dry the tobacco is, how the bowl was packed, probably pipe shape, wind if you're outside, cut of the tobacco. But for me, if I can control the biggest factors I'll always have a good smoke at the least. I bet with the tobaccos you haven't mastered yet, if...

    Why are estate pipes ok?

That's a really good idea, thanks for the tip. I'd heard filtered pipes are basically standard over in Europe. And I'll put my location in the profile, thanks.

    Danish Sir Walter Raleigh

I got a pouch of the new stuff, when I opened it up I was like "I know that smell..." Smelled like the chemicals in the darkroom in my high school photography class. I emailed SP to give them a heads up about a potentially bad batch and they gave me a refund. I kept it in a jar and it never...

    Why are estate pipes ok?

I like buying unsmoked estate pipes from SP. They're cheaper than if you bought them new and they're unused. I like 9mm filtered pipes, so I search "unsmoked 9mm" once in a while and see if they have anything cool at a good price. And now I let my secret out of the bag...

Do Some Pipes Smoke Hotter Than Others?

I found the same thing. Sometimes if a bowl gets too hot I'll set it down to cool. But I find a bowl with thicker walls takes longer to cool down too, not a huge deal though. I try to slow down and not let it get too hot but sometimes it happens.

    Gurgling

Since I started drying my tobacco more before smoking it's rare for me to get any gurgling. But that's a preference thing. I started drying mine more to reduce bite and found I had much less gurgling. I like the Virginias about bone dry, English blends I don't dry as much. I think with it...

    How much do you cellar?

I've got an odd method I used to determine how much I wanted to cellar. When I started and tried a bulk flake I liked, I thought "I need to get enough to fill a flat of jars." And in a pint jar I can fit 8oz. of flake, so 12 of those gets me 6lbs. That worked out well for bulks you can/could buy...

Not Looking Likely That Seattle Pipe Club Will Be Back On The Market?

Hope they can find a way to come back. When/if they do I'll expect them to be different for better or worse. I'm glad I got some Hogshead set aside, and Plum Pudding too. I don't smoke a lot of English or Balkan blends anymore but I enjoy Plum Pudding. That one's kind of odd for me...I don't...

    Tombigbee by the Country Squire

I haven't tried any of the Faulkner Flake yet, but I really should, been very busy. Based on the look and smell of it I'm pretty sure I'd enjoy it. And it might be interesting to compare the two.

    Cowboy Coffee

Just smoking my first bowl of this stuff now. I've had it for quite a while. This stuff burns really well, and it burns nice and cool. Really digging the flavor and I'm more of a Virginia and English kind of guy. I could probably smoke this all day long.

    The Sky is Falling

Took a picture this morning from my front porch. This isn't too far out of the ordinary here in WI. And it's a big reason why I'm saving up to move to New Mexico.

    British High Tea Time

I don't think so here in the US. If they did maybe I'd be a churchgoing man.

    British High Tea Time

I've tried maybe a dozen English breakfast style teas, some British some not. I like the strong flavor, and milk or cream really helps the mouthfeel. It's like the same feeling you get when drinking dry wines, not sure if it's tannins or what. But a little milk or cream takes care of it...

    Tempted... But should I though?

I don't know, man. That stuff seems pretty old. Because I'm such a selfless guy, if you sent that to me I'd properly dispose of it. I'd have to incinerate it in small amounts, a couple grams at a time but I'd be happy to help. 🤔 But seriously, enjoy it.

Post from Jeremy McKenna on Mac Baren closure

Yeah, I tried a pouch of SWR a handful of months ago. I immediately got punched in the sinuses, it reminded me of photography darkroom chemicals. Not the type of nostalgia I wanted. I tried to air it out for days and it really wasn't getting any better so into the trash can it went. I emailed...

what is the best bulk straight virginia?

I hear you. I have some bulks that I do like and have a good amount of, but none of them are ones I want to smoke everyday like HH Pure Virginia or Union Square. Those were my two readily available(not any more with the Mac Baren) favorite straight Virginias. Something about those two...

what is the best bulk straight virginia?

I tried a tin thinking "This is right up my alley, gonna love this stuff." I found the flavor really good, but it was kind of harsh, especially in the nose. Does Opening Night lose that harshness with age? If so, I was thinking I'd buy more to let hang out for a number of years.

what is the best bulk straight virginia?

I said it before here, but the flakes I had to cut in half to fit in a jar just like Sutliff Virginia Slices, they smell and look like them. I bought a pound when I saw they were available again, worried it would be my last chance. If they are Virginia Slices I'll be happy. I'll figure it out...

    TAD Acquisitions 2025

Not quite to Weimar Republic inflation levels, but give it a couple years and then go look on tinbids! 😉
