    Obviously the LB caught my eye, upon further examination of the photos it’s a 1947. For $10 a pipe it’s well worth the extra effort and cost for an invisible repair. But as a lot with a 10 other pipes, I still think it’s the deal of that day.

    Looks like the deal of the day. One of those is a Dunhill LB patent pipe. I can’t read the patent number, but an underlined 7 should be either 1927 or 1947. Either way worth far more than the BIN price.

    Everything you mention would make sense. In this case there are a number of well known counterfeits made in the 80’s and 90’s that match this particular one. Mostly a short apple shape, stamped on the bottom like a Shell would be but with a smooth finish, and with 1930’s date codes. I saw one...
