    C&D Briar Fox Review

Not very much sweetness coming from the Virginia’s. Very burley and strong.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

2017 London blend. Out of the Dunhill blends, I still prefer Nightcap in this darker, fuller Latakia, topped with tonquin English category. It’s nice. Definitely falls in line with the Nightcap, Quiet Nights, Ashton Artisan’s blend crowd. Westminster and Artisan’s are more complex, but not as...

    C&D Briar Fox Review

Yeah, it’s definitely a blend for straight up tobacco lovers, no topping/casing. Someone who enjoys cigars would like this one. Way too singular/cigar like for me to be smoking in my pipe. For a blend in this category, I would rather smoke a Semois blend.

***What Are You Smoking, May 2025?***

Smoking 2012 Vintage Syrian in the widest bowl pipe I have, a 1920’s Barling’s. I love this pipe for certain blends. The walls are thin, but it smokes cool like anything else. It’s a smaller pipe at barely over 5 inches, yet it’s bowl is more like a group 6.

***What Are You Smoking, May 2025?***

Smoking one of my own mixes. About 15% 2016 Christmas Cheer, 85% Brebbia Balkan, adding sweetness and toning down some of the dryness of this blend. Rarely do I ever mix as I appreciate what the blender has already spent the time and made, but this one works out pretty nicely.

***What Are You Smoking, April 2025?***

Smoked a bowl of Dark Flake Scented.

***What Are You Smoking, April 2025?***

Smoking a bowl of Brebbia Balkan I opened just the other day. Some people say that jar time is important, but for some blends they just taste best after first cracked.

    PipesAndCigars.Com: Are They Trustworthy?

They have always been good to me. They have a strange processing after you buy things, unlike SP. They also have other blends and samples options that SP does not have.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

Opened up another tin of 17’ Skiff. The gold-tinned versions of Skiff are a wider cut and have more Latakia in them than the new productions. There is also a very slight floral Lakeland topping along with Cognac. This is a superb blend as is the latest production Skiff. I hope the silver tins...

***What Are You Smoking, April 2025?***

Smoking Peretti’s Royal. This is a wonderful blend. I just smoked a bowl of Brebbia Balkan as well. I think I may prefer that one to the Royal, but none the less they are both superb Balkans in the dry Oriental camp.

    Smoking 17’ Skiff.

    Favorite Balkan/English And Why?

EMP, Nightcap, Vintage Syrian, HH Balkan, Quiet Nights, Charing Cross, Drucquer&Sons Levant, Skiff, and Brebbia Balkan are my favorites. I also like the Peretti’s stuff, Pembroke, Margate, and McConnell’s Oriental. There are some other Latakia blends that I prefer on certain occasions and older...

***What Are You Smoking, March 2025?***

Smoking Charing Cross tonight. One of the greatest Latakia blends of the Pease lineup.

    Skiff Mixture vs Squadron Leader

Skiff is the most similar to EMP, but EMP has a toastiness to it that pairs with coffee that Skiff does not. Also EMP has some red Virginia’s in it where as the Virginia’s in Skiff are a brighter variety. I reach for both for in the morning as a first bowl. The new Squadron Leader I find a bit...

***What Are You Smoking, March 2025?***

First year introduced, 2018 Mac Baren Balkan. It is superb.

***What Are You Smoking, March 2025?***

Opened a fresh tin of Nightcap and here’s the first bowl. Delicious with an IPA this evening.

Smoking one of my favorites, Brebbia Balkan.

***What Are You Smoking, February 2025?***

Brebbia Balkan in a 321. I originally thought that this blend was made by Mac Baren. Due to it being around still, I’m starting to believe that it is made by Dan Tobacco. Interestingly enough, both companies use the same compass insert inside their tins. I wonder what that’s about?

***What Are You Smoking, February 2025?***

Smoked a bowl of Charing Cross this morning. It really hits the spot when I smoke it for a heavier Latakia blend. It has this nice, sweet Latakia flavor with tones of cocoa and ginger unlike any other blend. I love when Pease uses ginger. After work now, smoking Nightcap.

May as Well Admit It: I Like Fr. Dempsey Best. What Should I Purchase That's Like It?

I think Skiff is a better blend than Father Dempsey. I think many blends are better than Father Dempsey for the standard English category. Check out Quiet Nights or Brebbia Balkan or even Nightcap. You will be blown away with the English offerings from LJP.
