offset draught hole from stummel to stem

Makes sense. I'll check the draw to be sure.

offset draught hole from stummel to stem

I just got an elaborately carved, larger than I expected, meerschaum. I was severely challenged to get a pipe cleaner through into the bowl to get carving dust and debris out. I removed the mortice and was able to determine that the draught hole from the bowl entered the stem from above (rather...

Very hard to get a cleaner through the tenon and into the bowl of a new meerschaum

I think the airflow is ok, maybe a bit tight. I tend to smoke moist aromatics in my meerschaums (to reserve my briars for a Black Cavendish), and those tend to impact draw if I'm not careful.

Very hard to get a cleaner through the tenon and into the bowl of a new meerschaum

What's the easiest way of unscrewing it without damaging it? I thought about pliers, but it is plastic... Or just "be gentle?"

Very hard to get a cleaner through the tenon and into the bowl of a new meerschaum

When I get a new pipe, I remove the stem, run a cleaner through that, and then through the stummel. That's where it was getting hung up, somewhere, it would seem, around the start of the mortise. It feels like the draught hole is offset. The real question, I suppose, is whether I should return...

Very hard to get a cleaner through the tenon and into the bowl of a new meerschaum

I tried that and it took several tries. It sounds; however, as if this isn't really uncommon (?).

Very hard to get a cleaner through the tenon and into the bowl of a new meerschaum

I just got a new meerschaum from Paykoc -- my second from them. I usually run a pipe cleaner through my new pipes to clean out manufacturing dust and debris, and it was a real struggle to find the hole to run the cleaner through. Is this common? I know on some of my pipes, briars, sometimes the...

    Pruning Pipe Collection?

When I smoke my Peterson churchwarden, I feel like a hobbit; when I smoke my Savinelli (Clark's Favorite), I feel a need to watch old movies.

    Pruning Pipe Collection?

I went through that. I had beautiful meerschaum that I loved to smoke, EXCEPT the balance was weird, so while I loved smoking it, it was hard to smoke because of the balance and the feel. Culled it. Also had another meerschaum carved to represent a dragon. It smoked as any meerschaum should, and...

    Pruning Pipe Collection?

Love the term, "herd." That describes it perfectly. Pipes I haven't smoked in a while for a variety of reasons, not the least of which is the balance was wrong.

    Pruning Pipe Collection?

Is it just me, or do others periodically go thru their pipes and "prune?"

Dunhill POS - Removing Dip Stain Taste

Just figured that out on my new Dunhill, same red stain on my hand (I tend to put my hand over the bowl). Haven't really noticed an awful smell, but I read this and swabbed it out with just a cleaning rag, no alcohol, and boy did I get some red stain. From reading through here, it sounds as if...

Thanks! I'm from Colorado. My favorite pipes are my Meerschaum and Savinellis. I love Lane 1Q blended 50-50 with black Cavendish. I'm also a professor here.

    LIghter trouble

I just got a Savinelli lighter -- very beautiful, but it seems to have a very hard time lighting. I've pressed the nozzle to burp it, but it doesn't seem to help. Suggestions?

Hello, Just saw this and I've enjoyed cigar forums, so this seems a perfect addition, given that I also smoke pipes!
