    Hi, from Ontario Canada

Welcome from Arizona. I'm at the other end of pipe smoking spectrum having been a frequent pipe smoker 30 years ago. Now, I'm back into it and restoring my old briar pipes. Interestingly, my 40 year old Corn Cob doesn't need restoration. It was tucked away in my pipe chest (out of the direct...

    Greetings and Salutations from NC

Welcome from Arizona. I also agree with mso489 that this is a great place to learn how to make nasty old stems look like new. I joined this group just for that reason as I'm getting back to smoking my old pipes that I haven't touched in 30 years.

    Oxidation Issue

I can attest to your dirty little secret. I am now working on my 40+ year old pipes, (that I haven't smoked in 30 years) that sit in the corner of my study. They get a full dose of morning sun everyday and they are very badly oxidized and taste horrible. For the bits, I am using Oxy-Clean...

    Hello from Arizona

I've just learned not to show off my pipes in full view of sunshine...they get horribly oxidized...but worth the effort to restore.

    Unburned Tobacco or Dottle Question

I'll have to investigate "meerschaum Chips, Nording Keystones Filters and Sharrow Philtpad in the bottom of the bowl" since I've never heard of these...but I can sure agree on dumping as the bowl sours. Good advice.

    Unburned Tobacco or Dottle Question

Another good reason to dump it sooner than later. Thank you.

    Unburned Tobacco or Dottle Question

I'm thinking smoking is for enjoyment, so dump it when it's not.

    Hello from Arizona

I was a regular pipe smoker until about 30 years ago and have decided it's time to get back into it so I can enjoy an after-dinner smoke on the back porch. First order of business is cleaning up the terrible oxidation on all my old pipes. As of today, two pipes done and eight to go. What a...

    Unburned Tobacco or Dottle Question

I try to smoke all the tobacco before cleaning out the chamber thinking it makes for a thicker cake at the bottom of the bowl and thus a better smoke as the pipe ages. But the last few lights are not very pleasant, so I'm not sure this practice is appropriate, or even necessary. I'm curious as...
