    Anyone use Nasal Snuff?

Can anyone recommend a few classic snuff blends that best cover the main categories? Straight, floral, German, menthol, etc. I would like to try, but wouldn't know where to start.

    UK Pipe Smokers....or Lack Thereof

I'm not in the UK but I've been working in a new region of New York state and I saw several pipe smokers just in the last few weeks which really surprised me. All in their cars. A few were tradesmen. The fact that I've only seen them in one of the largest Irish communities in the country is...

Have You Ever had a Pipe “Burn Through”?

Not yet, and I sometimes get my briars pretty hot because it always seems to be windy where I live. I try to be mindful to dial it back when I notice it getting hot and haven't seen any damage yet. But, I'm not exactly sure what would be evidence of the beginnings of burnout. Pits in the...

    P-lip Question

I had the same concerns about what I perceived as a somewhat muted flavor with the p-lip. I quickly realized it's entirely my smoking style and nothing to do with the design. I usually find myself kissing and pecking at the end of the fishtail to search out the flavors when I'm having a sit down...

Looking For A Really Good Pipe Lighter

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the zippo branded butane inserts seem to only offer the torch configuration unfortunately. Thunderbird has the standard and pipe style inserts but I haven't heard great things about the quality.

Do You Prefer to Buy Unsmoked or Pre-Smoked Pipes?

I have about 2 dozen pipes all estate. Most British in origin. I search out pipes by certain favorable criteria for how I enjoy my smokes starting with length. I prefer longer stem, medium size bowl, and lower weight. No filters. Stingers are usually a deal breaker. I just find it easier to...

    G.L. Pease, Where to Start?

Quiet Nights is my choice GLP. I had mixed feelings on first smoke out of the tin but found it much more agreeable after decanting to a jar for a few months. I'm just getting into some Key Largo now.

Is a Zippo Pipe Insert Really Better?

I alternate between the standard insert Zippo and Bics. I would like to try a pipe insert. I prefer butane so I have been considering the butane "thunderbird" pipe insert, but the reviews on them don't seem overwhelmingly positive.

What Tobaccos Hit You from Out of Left Field?

C&D Pegasus. Totally changed my burley game. Since I started the hobby a year ago, I've been mostly an OTC burley guy. Smokes like Granger & CH for instance have been very forgiving. Light nic, very non-offensive smoke. Doesn't irritate my nose. Pegasus started out really rough. Harsh smoke...

    Pipe Pouch Question

I used to throw everything in one pouch but my pipes were clinking around with the tools and that just didn't sit well with me. I upgraded to a Martin Wess 3 pipe case and it made a big difference. Pipes nice and secure. Less mess.

Tell Me your Favorite Wine-Tobacco Pairing

I have wine most days of the week. Nothing fancy. $20 table wine range. Usually a Bordeaux or a dry Italian red. I don't consciously pair wines with my smokes but if I did, I would like contrast. So a sweet smoke with a dry Montepulciano D'Abruzzo. If I'm having a smokey latakia then maybe a...

    Simple Question?

As a beginner myself, I find it theurapeutic to sometimes pack a nice dry easy burning blend and tamp through a whole session without relights. Just dropping the tamper by its weight on the ember down to a nice white ash. It's a confidence booster after struggling with hard to light finicky blends.

    Hello from New York

Lived in the City years ago and have been moving around the lower Hudson Valley since. Thanks for the tip, I'll need to check it out!

    Drying Before Smoking

After work, I usually lay a few bowls worth out on paper towels that I fold up and tuck somewhere around the kitchen. I'll have one that evening and the rest for the next day. I'll grab them in the morning and shove them in my pipe case. When it's too dry, I'll try mixing with fresh out of the...

    Do You Clench your Pipe?

I mostly clench when driving or taking a short walk. I have a light pipe that I prefer to clench with and it's usally running a little hot because I tend to smoke faster when clenching. I never thought about it, but I always clench on the left. I'm also left-handed.

    High End Leather Pipe Pouch

I had been using a nylon toiletry bag as a pipe case that I kept in my backpack. It quickly stunk up my backpack. I got a vintage Martin Wess 3 pipe bag and the difference is night and day with the lambskin. Very little smell escapes and it is far more protective. I don't have the small tobacco...

Anyone Use Black Silicone Tips for Stems?

I have them on a variety of pipes with different sized stems and they slipped on easily. I'm using the BJ Long brand. I'm glad I have them in certain circumstances such as driving when I tend to clench heavily.

    Hello from New York

Hello and great to meet you all. I'm from the New York area and I've been enjoying pipes for about a year now. I feel the hobby has rewarded me with such a good deal of relaxation and joy in that time. I have about a dozen estate briars in my rotation that I continue to add to. I'm very fond of...
