    Kiseru - Japanese Pipe

It is like the espresso version of tobacco. There is something to be said for small but strong portions. I will try to update you when I manage to get some koiki. I will say a little about smoking Amsterdam Shag in the kiseru. For those who don't know it is a blend of virgina and kentucky...

    Kiseru - Japanese Pipe

I recently got a kiseru myself. I have been smoking some PS Amsterdam Shag in it. I am working on getting some actual koiki tobacco, but we'll see how that goes. This style of smoking suits me. It is a short but good and satisfying smoke. It is sometimes preferable to have a quick smoke and...

    Throat irritation sometimes..

I would not ask a doctor. Doctors are not trained in pipe smoking. A doctor will just tell you to quit because they believe that all smoking always causes cancer. The only thing a doctor will do is offer you a pill that will cover up one symptom and cause various side effects. They have never...

    Savinelli Is Messing Up Badly

There are three pipes in question. Pipe 1 was inspected and returned. Pipe 2 has been smoked and treated with alcohol a few times. I continue to smoke it. I think I am banishing the stain taste. It seems much better now. I never used acetone on it because my forum searches suggest that...

Another Ropp Vintage On The Way

I wish I owned that. I don't have even one lathe as I don't have the space for one. When I do have the space I would like to get a small one for my little projects and general tinkering.

    No Cake?

It's kind of fun to build a cake, but it can be a pain to remove it later on. Because of the tobaccos I smoke my cake is always tarry, moist, and sticky. So I don't like to wipe the bowl with paper towel or anything because it will leave little white specks stuck to the cake. Normally I don't do...

Another Ropp Vintage On The Way

Of course finding a bone replacement will probably be difficult. I don't even want to think about carving one from scratch. It is exactly the kind of tedious thing I would waste my time on.

Another Ropp Vintage On The Way

I agree for the most part, as vulcanite is just chemically processed natural rubber. However there is something special about all natural and non-processed materials. We're splitting hairs, but really I think it comes down to an appreciation of pre-industrial craftsmanship. Even today people...

Another Ropp Vintage On The Way

I am surprised that they use a delrin tenon. Did horn stems always use a separate tenon? I really want one of these horn stem pipes but I think I would try to replace that piece of plastic with an actual bone tenon. I think it would be very nice to have a pipe made from all natural materials...

    Mini meers?

My mini meer arrived this week. I am really impressed with the craftsmanship on this $20 pipe. The bowl is ever so slightly out of round on the upper part of the rear left, but I don't care on such a cheap pipe. The drilling is not perfect, but pretty damn good considering the price point...

    Savinelli Is Messing Up Badly

I agree that the vulcanite on my French pipes oxidizes quickly. Sometimes I will polish the stems with some Flitz polish and a rag, but usually I leave the stems a bit oxidized because I think it looks cool.

    Savinelli Is Messing Up Badly

Being sensitive is no fun. Your video is interesting. Go to 2:02 and you will see the man use a brush to put a purple-ish liquid into the mortises before he fits the stems on. That purple stain looks like the same stain I see in my mortise. Those pipes are judging from the yellow stems, I...

    Savinelli Is Messing Up Badly

Oh I am sure that smokingpipes would accommodate me. I'm not worried about that at all. But what should I know about acetone? I think I remember mixing acetone and styrofoam together in my hands when I was a kid. I think it is flammable too.

    Savinelli Is Messing Up Badly

Like a few other posters you seem to think this is a cosmetic issue. I don't care how it looks. Why would anyone care about how the mortise looks? The problem is that the stain in the mortise imparts a bad taste that doesn't go away. I'm not sure if they are dip staining. The stain in the bowl...

    Savinelli Is Messing Up Badly

I am surprised with the responses thus far. I expected more people to be agree with me about stain tasting bad and about stain in the mortise being unacceptable shoddy workmanship. I just might do this. I have thought about it at least. For now I will stick to my cheap French pipes. As I said...

    Savinelli Is Messing Up Badly

Over the past few weeks I have bought and returned several "high end" Savinellis. What a joke this brand has become. They all have stain in the bowl and even worse in the mortise. I have had too many bad experiences with stain in bowls and especially the mortise of pipes. Stain in the mortise...
