Am I the Only One Here with No Cell Phone?

I wish I didn't require to have a smart cell phone for work. I liked my flip phone that just had Phone and text capability much better. I find that the smart phones don't focus on actually using them as a phone, so the phone functionality is always subpar. The service here also sucks and is...

    Anyone Ever Carved Meerschaum?

That pipe looks excellent! Great work

    Anyone Ever Carved Meerschaum?

Great work so far! This is something that I would also be really interested in doing myself. Where did you get your kit? And how is the quality of the kit? Just curious on the quality as sometimes kits in some of my other hobbies have been just garbage quality.

    Percolator Coffee

I have a percolator that I use probably 2 or 3 times a month. It is the cheapest ceramic coated one I could find, exactly like the one my dad bought 30 years ago. I got it when we had company visiting because my moka pot and manual espresso maker were too slow to make everyone coffee at once, I...

Anyone Else Prefer Wooden Matches Over A Lighter.

That is a switch forsure! Can get them everywhere here, The odd part is redbird is part of Eddy Match which is based in New Hampshire. I do see that these were made in Chile though. Eddy Match was a Canadian company back in the day. I wonder if they still distribute the redbird brand here...

Anyone Else Prefer Wooden Matches Over A Lighter.

Redbird still makes them, you can get them in big 250 match boxes or small 30 match boxes. Can still strike them with a finger nail like when I was a kid

    Touchy Subject

I as well, come from a family of pretty heavy drinkers, the biggest problem for me was the ability to stay relatively mentally competent despite the large amount of alcohol that I consumed. I mean I would never drive, operate heavy equipment or perform physical tasks but if it was phone call for...

    MY WIFE LIKES IT!!!

My wife tried mine once but was not impressed. She does usually sit and read a book with me when I smoke though. As long as the breeze isn't blowing the smoke in her face she is happy. She likes the room note (outside note) of some of them as well, however she is a bloodhound and sometimes tells...

    Ghost Options

So I would like to clarify, the shank is clean, fresh filter in the brigham, stem is also clean, I can only taste the ghost where the small ring of cake was present before cleaning up the pipe. The top half of the bowl, no ghost, bottom 1/4 of the bowl no ghost. The center where the cake ring...

    Ghost Options

Thanks for the tips! I will try that If I find the next 2 or so bowls have the same amount of powerful ghost still present in them.

Would you consider devils holiday to be a strong aromatic? I have a tin of erinmore flake that I could crack but I was going to try that in a cob since I am not sure if I will like it or not yet

    Ghost Options

I did an alcohol and cotton treatment, after wiping the bowl out with alcohol. When I was done the bowl was solid light brown, the colour of that cake building material the coated those pipes with. The coffee trick is new to me

    Ghost Options

So I have an estate pipe, it is a Brigham from the early 80s, and it has the light brown bowl coating. When I bought the pipe it had a thin doughnut of cake in the middle, almost like the previous user had started breaking it in and then just forgot about it after 5 minutes, 3 times in a row...

    Second Half of the Bowl...

I have found that a less aggressive lighting technique also helps with the bottom of the bowl, especially when using butane. I will canvas with I am not new to pipes, but I am not experienced enough to be giving tips so the below are personal observations YMMV. If you think about it on a...

    Flake Packing Force Question

Nope, I just haven't had another pipe since experimenting with cube cut. Cube cut worked well 2 times so far, am going to try rubbing it out next. Just working backwards if you will.

    Flake Packing Force Question

I think once I have more experience I will revisit this Solani flake with fold and stuff, but right now despite the extra prep, cube cut seems to be just fine. I will have to crack my new tin of Mac Barren Navy Flake and see if folding and stuffing still works like it did for me years ago!

    Flake Packing Force Question

This is how I test my meet as well. So do you pack your pipe like a medium rare steak? medium well? lol I did watch a video where the tutorial compared the compression force of each stage of the 3 stage method with a marshmallow. I thought it was a decent less arbitrary instruction as opposed...

    Flake Packing Force Question

I think that is my major take away from this, try different methods until one works for that pipe/flake combo. I just received my order of some new tobacco, 2 tins of flake, so I will try different methods with those as well. So far I think cube cute is working the best for this Solani ABF, it...
