Haha. I'm smoking it right now. Nothing beats a virgin, not to mention vergin, Castello for flavor! To answer your question: the mellow color is due to age but I have no fear of darkening it with smoke and handling.:)- dunnyboy

I thought my pipe acquisition days were over but I saw this shape 65 vergin at Tabaccheria Corti and couldn't resist. According to Luca, the pipe was in Kino's personal collection. He sold it to Luca in January of this year, four months before he, Kino, passed away. There is no castle logo...- dunnyboy

Struggling to taste tabacco
You mentioned loading the bowl by gravity feed and packing loosely. You might be packing too loosely. A potential problem with packing too loosely—especially if you're not delicate when applying the flame for the charring light—is that it's easy to scorch the tobacco (and your taste buds)...- dunnyboy
