A Little Humor for the Day 2025

That's O.K. And then, there's the TUN, which was a wooden barrel made to contain 250 gallons of wine.

How Do You Store a Lit Bowl

I have a couple of t-shirts with many small holes in them, in the chest and stomach areas. Some are from the cat kneading their claws into me, but mostly they come from days I was being a bit careless in tamping a just-lit pipe, dragging coals and bits of tobacco out of the bowl on the top of...

How Do You Store a Lit Bowl

If you ever do cigars, just don't copy John Astin's Gomez Addams character and place the lit cigar back into the breast pocket you took it out of. I've never heard anyone who worked on that show speak about that bit of costume trickery, was the pocket holding a metal insert or other gimmick...

    Chesterton's Mad Science Ideas

Now you've got me wondering about those horehound drops my grand-dad had me hooked on ages ago ! !

Vendor wants ID for a pipe wax order

A useful remark for when leaving such an establishment: "I'll be spending my money elsewhere from now on."

Are There Any Anime Fans Here?

I think Vampire Hunter D was the first anime I ever saw. It was aired during those first few weeks of the then brand-new Sci Fi Channel.

A Little Humor for the Day 2025

I'd be careful around anybody like that. It could be an avatar of Odin himself. If there were both crows, almost certainly.

Are There Any Anime Fans Here?

Just tried to watch something with the English title of The Twelve Kingdoms and after the first two of 45 episodes (that I'm aware of) have enabled me to give a one word review: TEDIOUS ! ! ! ! !

A Little Humor for the Day 2025

Neither had George Lucas. I actually bought and read a USED paperback of the novel Star Wars about three months before the first movie was released. At that time, I hadn't even heard the movie was in the works!

So... What OTHER Hobbies Occupy Your Time?

It seems to be shaping up to involvement with black powder and muzzle loaders, both long and short. And for some unknown reason that wasn't planned, I now have four buntlines, two rimfire, two caplock. (so far . . . )

A Little Humor for the Day 2025

When I was playing the town's grave digger for the Maine Renaissance Faire, part of his shtick was that he knew where every single missing tax collector was "buried."

Toughest Pipe Smoking SOB in Movies.

Some folks don't know this (younger fellas) but Popeye started out as a movie star, as the cartoons were made for the movie theaters back during that era.

Attack Of The Pissed Off Wasps

It doesn't help that the insects of the world outnumber us humans by several billion to one. Several years ago, when I opened the back yard shed, a cloud of wasps shot out. I'm not a fast person any more, but I believe that I saw one of them land on the right lens of my glasses just as I made...

Any Love For Non-Bulldog Diamond Shanked Pipes ?

Some 25 - 30 years back I did have a diamond-shanked corncob pipe. Can't remember the maker, but MM seems to be connected with my memories of it.

    Strange Object In The Sky

There was a year when insurance company data revealed that the safest driver in the U.S.A. happened to be: A woman, driving her tractor in the fields, between 2 to 3 on Sunday mornings.

    Strange Object In The Sky

I once did (really, actually) business cards for a guy which read: ROAD WARRIOR MOBILE MECHANIC Foreign — Domestic — Alien phone

A Little Humor for the Day 2025

A True Groaner! I remember one radio show in Portland OR (in the late '80s) where the host made a whole segment of his show by having the listeners call in the best-of-the-worst Groaners they had. It made for pretty entertaining nonsense.
