Do Sterling Pipes Offer the Same Benefit as Army-Mount?

Nah, moisture doesn't bother me (except that one time I got the brilliant idea to smoke lying down, gwarthr!!) No, the reason I am looking for a pipe that will withstand the hot disassembly is for transport.. I travel a fair bit with work. I take my time smoking, but as a result sometimes I need...

Do Sterling Pipes Offer the Same Benefit as Army-Mount?

For reference, here are some examples of what I mean: spigot mount army mount sterling mount sterling mount 2

Do Sterling Pipes Offer the Same Benefit as Army-Mount?

A number of pipes have a silver band on the end of the shank, and I was wondering whether this affords the same benefit as with army-mount or spigot pipes: That you can disassemble them while hot without the risk of cracking the pipe? Edited by jvnshr: Title capitalization (please check Rule #9)

    Tobacconist In NYC

Hey, I've been searching Yelp with no luck. I'm in New York for the week, and was hoping to score some American pipe tobaccos to take home across the pond -- save the postage and all that. Does anyone know where I might find a good (or even any) tobacconist in New York. I'd love to be able to...

Dunhill My Mixture 965. Oh, My Goodness!

@tuold: I smoked it outside, so the smell was probably milder than it would've been had I smoked it in a closed room, where the smoke might aggregate. As for the smoke itself, I gave it a "good" hot start (bland taste at first), but then slowing down toward the second half of the bowl it would...

    Bowls per day average

1 or 2 bowls, but some weeks I can't smoke at all. I work at a kissing booth (yes, I know, ha ha) at our local fair. The job is split between 5 of us, so whether I get to smoke depends on the schedule. Booth rules dictate you have to be smoke-free for at least 1 full day before a shift. Sucky...

Dunhill My Mixture 965. Oh, My Goodness!

Many good suggestions of other baccies.. Hereby added to my to-try list :) It'll take me a while to get through the list, though.. baccy here is $30+ per tin, and I just splurged out on a new pipe and of course the wonderful MM 965 :) Seeing as no one commented on the incense-like taste/smell, I...

How To Save A Bad Bowl

Regarding packing: Try not actually packing the pipe, but merely filling it. There is no prize for getting as much tobacco in the bowl as possible anyway. If you do the 3 pinch method, try for a while just to do the first step: stuff it like a babe, then light it, tamp it ever so lightly (the...

Dunhill My Mixture 965. Oh, My Goodness!

For months I've been meaning to get myself some Dunhill My Mixture 965, but funds were low and stocks of other tobaccos were high. Finally a couple of days ago, I managed to get my hands on a tin. The title says it all. I mean, I had heard it was good, but this is ridiculously good. It is...

How much of a difference does the shape of your bowl make

Pipe smoking is a science, but a true science, not a science like they teach it at school. Real research scientists basically just try stuff and see what happens :D They don't worry too much about it :) With a deep bowl, fill it as you please. Don't worry about the flame being too short, even if...

    Granddad's Pipes?

My condolences on his passing. Generally with estate pipes, you will want to sterilize them and clean them out. Seeing as he was a family member you may not be worried about sterilizing it. How much cleaning they require will vary depending on the condition of the inside of the bowl (not visible...

    Duration of Smoke

I have a tiny meerschaum that I bought off ebay that only requires ~15 min for a full pipe. If I only want a short smoke, generally I'll just use that one. I like to sit on my porch and smoke in the evening or early morning, and usually I'll sit and smoke the full bowl, which will last me an 45...

    Marijuana Pipe as Tobacco Sampler?

oh, well so much for that idea.. Thanks for the input :) I guess the way to go is clay for home and corn for travel. Would've been cool though with a metal travel/sampling pipe. Oh, well.. close but no cigar (or pipe as it were ^^)

    Marijuana Pipe as Tobacco Sampler?

Does anyone have experince with tobacco in a marijuana pipe? I was browsing ebay, when suddenly I got this idea, marijuana pipes are often made from glass or metal, and so I thought they might be like clay pipes ie. perfect as a tobacco sampler: no ghosting, no burn-in etc. What are your thoughts?

    Taste vs. Aftertaste

Cool, thanks :) I'll try the bottom-up approach, also nice with a rough estimate of the break-in time :) One question, many people in youtube videos I've watched recommend letting the pipe rest 24h-48h between smokes, would you say this applies also when breaking it in, ie. if I only smoke 1/3...

Our Ebay Handles And Bidding Against Each Other

Yes, but just a little bit to illustrate a point, though Cosmic made the point far better, (goodness, Cosmic, laughed so hard it made me cry) -- Everyone just wants a pipe, if they don't they'll bid on one they do. Also I think the seller deserves getting a fair price for his/her nice pipe.

    Taste vs. Aftertaste

Thanks for all the wonderful welcomes :) and for all the advice! I'll definitely try all the tobaccos recommended, can't wait :) Thanks for the link Romeowood, that's awesome! Will definitely give those tips a go. As for which virginia flake, sadly I can't claim to have picked it out myself...
