***What Are You Smoking, February 2025?***

bought a MM Shire when they first came out. Their vulcanite stems were cast, and there were ridges on the sides of the tenon that prevented me from removing my stem the first time I tried, and like a dumbass, I broke it off inside the shank. That left me with a broken stem and part of it still...

***What Are You Smoking, February 2025?***

Went out walking with a bowl of J4/perique in a MM Morgan using a vulcanite stem I cobbled from a Shire and now at the computer with a small apple meer and some PS LNF. Listening to a podcast called "Locked on Nuggets" about the Denver Nuggets and primarily Nikola Jokic. I've been 'into'...

Big 'n Burley in my Graybow Westbrook straight wire brush rusticated apple with a pipe mud bottom patch to close the hole I once 'created' with an overly vigorous implementation of the pick part on my CZESK tool. This nasty looking old pipe is one of my favorite smokers.

    Some Tips Please.

Cosmic's answer is usually 'the right one'. In this case again, it is. Here's one man's approach and a very large archive of refurbishments. https://rebornpipes.com/ I've cleaned up a bunch of ebay acquisitions over the last 10 yrs. I have had successes and a few failures. I keep a Butner...

Moving to Burley Blends - Advice Needed!

Most of the codger blends (Carter Hall, Sir Walter Raleigh, Prince Albert, Half & Half, Granger, Velvet, and Mixture 79) are burley based and lightly topped. Each has its own characteristics, as do other more 'exclusive' (?) burley blends, with the most consistent shared value being nicotine...

Sutliff Danish Cavendish in a no name Italian basket billiard. This pipe is a perfect billiard with a smooth finish and its stem is superb. Stems are so important to the enjoyment of a pipe. I much prefer vulcanite to acrylic.

Hemp Twine for Lighting Your Pipe

I typically clench a pipe while lighting the wick. The wick is really good for relights and deep bowls. The flame is easily controlled and when the wick burns slowly, (not the case with every hemp wick) a leisurely, calm, reliable flame helps keep you in the right mode of operation.

    I Started With Matches

I do use hemp wick in addition to whichever it is that I use to make fire. It conserves fuel, allows me a lingering and moderate flame, and adds nothing in the ash tray.

What Will Be The Most Sought-After Sutliff Blends 5 Years From Now?

There's something about that first experience, when it's really good, that is difficult to repeat. That goes with tasting things as well as accomplishing things. I've only smoked one tin of Firestorm, but I rank it as one of the best tasting blends I've tried. It may have been just that I was in...
