    Falcon Pipes Question

I’m a long time briar and cob smoker and recently bought a falcon. My first attempt at smoking it was a disaster - I just couldn’t get the draw right -, way too tight. I have used the frank method for years but I’m thinking this is not the right way to pack a falcon bowl? Any suggestions?

How fast is too fast when puffing?

At the risk of turning this thread into a pipe packing discussion; I highly recommend the Frank method for new smokers. I was one of those pipe smokers who was ready to give it away because of constant relights. Now whilst the experienced will tell you "it doesn't matter - just enjoy the smoke"...

    Pipe Smoking Do's And Don'ts

    Advice needed

This was me about 6 months ago. 18 months of trying this and that, waiting for the experience to build and everything fall into place. I was nearly ready to chuck it all away until I stumbled onto two things; the Frank method of packing and a quicker smoking cadence (yes that's right folks -...

    I love Escudo

I'm with Jeremya; I want to love it and it smells great from the tin but never fails to disappoint me in the pipe. Can't keep it lit and tastes bland. I've got 4 tins tucked away so maybe after a few years I'll come back and delete this post. Sorry to the all the lovers.

The Frank Method: A Novice's Perspective

Glad the method is working for you Stanlaurel. As far as draw goes I have found it to be lighter/looser than other methods despite how much of the tobacco you "wedge" down on top of the bowl. It does get a bit tighter as the tobacco swells when first lit. I also like this method because it...

    New to pipes

I'll add my vote for Lane Limited 1Q. Buy in bulk - cheap and easy to smoke.

The Frank Method: A Novice's Perspective

Thanks heavens for Frank. I've been seriously smoking pipes for over 12 months now and got tired of hearing all the "cool guys" telling me to relax and don't let the relights bother you. Dam it the relights did bother me! How relaxing can it be to have to relight the pipe every 2 mins.? Tried...

    Flake Question

<p>Just found this thread - thought I was cheating by rubbing out my flake (kind of like that dirty habit you have and keep secret from others). Seems I'm not the only one who has trouble with folding and stuffing. Got to love these forums

    Rattray pipes? Thoughts!

Bought a Rattrays Old Gowrie 9 of eBay for $ 40. It's a beautiful looking pipe and in mint condition. I'm enjoying a bowl of a Golden Slice in it right now. I'd definitely get another one.

    Favorite Pipe For Your Escudo?

I have been trying to smoke escudo in a peterson 313 but just can't seem to keep it lit! Most posts seems to favour the fold & stuff method so I've been trying this with a single coin just because of the small bowl size. Any ideas on what I'm doing wrong?

    Trying smoke a Peterson 313

Guess I'll reply to myself because it looks embarrassing to have only one post on this thread.

    Trying smoke a Peterson 313

Okay I have recently bought and restored an estate Peterson 313. Over the last few days I have tried smoking various tobaccos in this pipe however cannot seem to keep anything lit. So far I've tried Escudo, bald headed teacher and Dunhill EMP (which seems to smoke well in my other pipes...

Dunhill Early Morning Pipe - Pipe Tobacco Reviews

As a pipe newbie I recently purchased a tin of EMP. (Dunhill make good pipes don't they so their tobacco must be good as well? ). First bowl was like smoking a cigarette with extra strength nic - nausea, headache and aftertaste like a tiny little man had pooed in my mouth. I swore I would...

    The White Ash

Much obliged to all the replies. Yes I do smoke some arros but seems to be left overs/dottle regardless of the type of tobacco. And of course my packing technique is constantly changing to find the best fit. I seem to be oscillating between too light and too tight! Only have a year of...

    The White Ash

Is the "white ash" a reality? Does anyone really pack, light and smoke their bowl "down to a fine white ash" or is this just the pipe smokers version of a penthouse forum article? Why am I always left with a thimble full of damp leaf at the bottom of every bowl? Hmmmmmm

    Discerning tobacco flavours

I read somewhere in these forums (might have been a GLP article) about trying the same smoke in different pipes, times etc. My first go at EMP left me with less than favourable opinion - tasted like a dirty cigarette and I felt sick. 4 bowls later and I love the stuff. I am able to definitely...

    Relights

Thanks for the advice. I've been trying all the various packing methods and at the moment am mostly smoking GLP Odyssey and Three Nuns. I normally only tamp lightly on the relights. Forgive my ignorance but its coming into winter down here (Australia) and as I smoke outside I'm also wondering if...

    Relights

First of all I apologise for bringing up this old chestnut as I'm sure it's been addressed many times before. That having been said I would like some advice about relights and smoking cadence. I've been having a devil of a time trying to keep my pipes lit to the point where I'm having to relight...

    Discerning tobacco flavours

Much obliged to all the responders. I like the idea of sticking to a blend for the whole tin and smoking in various pipes, times etc. Guess I'll just have to have an extra bowl or two each day. Oh well ……………….
