***What Are You Smoking *** (Sept. 2014)

GLP Key Largo in a rusticated Brigham Apple. And "hola!" to everyone. Been about a year since I posted anything. Simon

The Canadian Edition Box Pass - Round 1

Judging by my time with the box, I'd like to point out that tobacco in baggies going through the mail repeatedly don't last forever... there should probably be some sort of an agreement on "expiry date", so that the baggie of "Bob's Discount Floorsweepings" doesn't spend the next decade...

And there it is! At the 26 minute mark, and the first caller. Thanks for breaking the ice, Ramona. Simon

I Will Be on NPR Radio Show on Pipe Smoking. Wed 12/12/12

Listening! So far, so awesome. Simon PS. LOL on the LOTR tie-in, since that spurred my curiosity back then.

The Canadian Edition Box Pass - Round 1

Give the man time! A box that big takes time to peruse and sample. :-) I know I had the box for almost a week and a half. Phil also has been known to disappear for periods of time, but he always comes back. Simon

The Canadian Edition Box Pass - Round 1

Damn. Now I can't pass along the box with only a pouch of Borkum Riff and say that's what got sent to me. It's great that everyone is contributing, but we all have to "withdraw" as well. The ziploc bags won't keep the 'baccy forever. Sometimes you gotta man up and take the last cupcake...

Might be my last dumb questions

Pipe cleaners are my "excuse" to head to a B & M, no questions asked by the missus. :) Me: "I'm off to Goodfellas." Wife: "Why?" Me: "Pipe cleaners. I'm out." Wife: "Oh, okay then." Never question what works. Simon

    Outdoor smokers

I'm outdoors or garage. Outdoors in the summer you'll find me on the porch watching the neighborhood roll by. Garage in the winter, with the doors open a crack and the heater on. For a while, my wife objected to the smoking in the garage, but when I stopped, there was a big influx of wolf...

Might be my last dumb questions

Cake happens. For briar that's a good thing, but for meerschaum and other alternate materials, it isn't. The black carbon buildup on the walls of the bowl thickens over time, and if you're smoking the bowl all the way to the bottom each time, it should be somewhat even. When it gets too thick...

The Canadian Edition Box Pass - Round 1

The order is roughly the same as in the Google Docs link in Adam's first post, although there have been a couple of additions, including myself. The box will be on its way early next week, yada, yada. The breakdown of blends in the box is probably English 50%, Va or Va/Per 40% and Aromatics 10%...

    I don't get it

+1 on cortezattic I have taken to Virginias lately, in among quality aromatics and Englishes don't see much play. I'll admit that I enjoy the English flavor "hit", but Virginias and VaPers always seem to have surprises hiding in the bowl: these sudden infusions of new things that either I was...

The Canadian Edition Box Pass - Round 1

Hi all, I got the box from Adam this morning. I made a quick tally: 38 blends in varying amounts in the box. Lots of interesting ones. Smoked a few coins of Mac Baren Club Blend tonight to get started. Part of me wants to try all the GLP blends, while the other part of me says that's dumb...

    Pipe Babe at Sea

She's a looker (I am a sucker for a redhead). Add the pipe and the impromptu pose and she's alright in my books. Nice photo. Simon

    McClelland Grand Orientals

Jeez, I'd been staying away from the forum for the last while because it always inflames my TAD... and now I'm grabbing for my keys and planning to wait down at the tobacconist until it opens. Thanks a lot. Simon

    MC's Honeydew

Definitely on my list to try. I have a gifted tin of 221b Arcadia and it's my go-to English. In fact, most of my go-to smokes are McClelland. I guess I just like what they do. Simon

I was told that English blends smell like an old burning house

If you have to ask, you probably already know the answer. :) Was the Solano Special a bulk purchase, so there's no tin to read? If there's a dark, smoky aroma in the bag and the smoke has a really unsubtle but complex and full taste and your wife hates it, it's an English. While I like...

I see what you did there... ;-)

If you could live the story of any book...

I second that. I made a quick inventory of the books I like and realized that life sucked for the main character. Hence drama and compelling reading. Having said that, I think the one that I would want to experience just because I think it would outweigh the sucking would be Shogun by James...
