Help Dating a Charatan’s Make Authentic 10990
I picked up this Charatan’s on eBay, cleaned and restored it. But as I’ve found on other Charatan’s the dating rules don’t fit nicely on this one. It has the Lane ‘L’ on the bottom of the shank but no ‘DC’ or ‘X’ after the shape number (10990), AND it has a tapered stem (not saddle or DC). Are...- grandalfpipes

Do Some Pipes Smoke Hotter Than Others?
I'm a fairly new pipe smoker. I know that some tobaccos smoke hotter than others. I know that some smokers smoke hotter than others. But do some pipes tend to smoke hotter than others? Is anyone familiar with André (Mermet) pipes?
I found a couple of pipes today marked “André”, one with the date “1982”. These are apparently made by André Mermet, but I can’t find much info on them. Any help (I’ve already checked pipedia) would be appreciated!- grandalfpipes
