THE MAKING OF A GREAT MORTA PIPE

Make no mistake: the difference between a cheap Morta pipe and an exceptional Morta pipe is like the difference between: A driver and a chauffeur. A trip and a voyage. Mickey Mouse and a rat under your bed…

    MORTA PIPE

There are different ages and qualities for bog oak (Morta) pipes. The cheap ones are 2 to 5 thousand years old (as determined by carbon 14 analysis), and look like a block of cheap chocolate. They don’t smoke well either. This one is an exemplary 8-10 thousand year old material. Different than...

    WINSLOW GRADE A

For your consideration. Winslow from Denmark made this amazing grade “A” pipe for the Cink Tobacco Shop in Vienna, Austria. Sadly, the store closed down. Joyfully, this new pipe became available for a fraction of the retail price. Notice the picture of the huge Russian lathe in his ‘laboratory’.

    JOS NYMPFER - late 1800s

Jos NYMPFER was a tobacconist, owner of a store in Liege, Belgium. The store closed around 1895. Most likely a St Claude pipe. I put a rubber seal around the screw to avoid stress and ensure closure. I believe the pipe was unsmoked: no signs of charcoal on the chamber. The ring is gold. It looks...

    DUNHILL 1925 MAGNUM

For your enjoyment. It was in a drawer for 100 years in London. 4 patents: 2 on the pipe, 1 on the mouthpiece, 1 on the case. Everything pristine as new. It makes me smile. After getting a mortgage on the house, I smoke it rather often in the garden.
