    Christmas Cheer 2005 In 2025

This tin spent 20 years getting ready for this moment. No time like Christmas Day with a Tom Eltang pencil bamboo Dublin. Happy holidays and cheers! Mike N

What Is Your Experience With Tariffs When Ordering Pipes From Abroad?

I am interested in hearing from other forum members whether the tariffs have curtailed their pipe purchases. I ordered a few pipes recently from a well-known Italian shop and the total came to $1150 with DHL shipping. I was given a 15% discount, but I failed to ask about tariff payments...

    San Diego Pipe Club Documentary

This was just posted on YouTube and is a great watch. Early founding members included Pipe maker Jeff Gracik (J Alan) and Shane Ireland (SmokingPipes.com).

    MBSD Briars by Piero Vitale

The new MBSD series of billiards with silver army mounts and ebonite stems were reasonably priced at $120 for blasts and $130 for smooth and sold out fast. I picked up a blast that arrived today.

Another nice benefit of joining this club for under $40 a year. You also get quarterly newsletters which are always interesting.

Claudio Cavicchi SPC 25th Anniversary Smooth Bent Billiard with Silver

The straight grain on the CCCCC grades is about as good as it gets. Only 25 of the 25th Anniversary pipes were made in several different grades. Laudisi owner Sykes Wilford and Shane Ireland have a great video about these pipes on SmokingPipes.com’s YouTube channel.

    What Were Your Go-To Tobacco’s in 2025?

Every year I keep the lids from each tin and the label from every can I empty in a tupperware container just to see what I smoked most often during the year. I was a bit surprised to find these were my top blends this year. What were yours? 1. Drucquer & Sons Loch Ness: the quality of the...

Interesting Modern Deco Pipe Stands On SP.com

They sold out quickly tonight. They came in gold and gunmetal, for one or three pipes. I assume the base is an engineered plastic but it was not described. The single stands were $25 and the 3-pipe stands went for $45. I like them. What do you think? I wish them came in a chair model, too.

    Jay Mouton Squat Tomato

This is my first Mouton, though I’ve admired his pipes for a while now. In the second photo it’s shown alongside another squat tomato by Adam Davidson, which is loaded with some Palmetto Balkan and ready to go.

LJ Peretti - 5 Burley Blends I Ordered

I enjoy LJP’s No. 8 Slices and London Flake, so as I begin drifting towards winter Burleys, I decided to try five 2 oz. burley samples. The winner will see a 1 lb order. “Cuban Mixture”- one I’ve tried before and really liked. LJP calls it their oldest blend, made with 7 components. “No...

    Wind caps

I like to use wind caps, not only when smoking outside, but also when preloading my pipe so tobacco does not fall out as well as in my truck so that ash does not hit the seat or my clothing, I have found that the wind caps with the sharp, pointed closure pins grip well but can chip the rim of...

    Sara Eltang Pipes

Tom Eltang, pipe maker extraordinaire, started this line named after his daughter as a budget-friendly brand. I have a few, despite their acrylic and not the ebonite stems I prefer, and they smoke great. But, man is the price climbing from their original cost of just over $200.

Rockwell Drawing Featuring Pipe Smoker Outside Oval Office Set For Auction

This evening’s New York Times noted an auction estimate of $4-6 million dollars for a 4-panel set of Norman Rockwell drawings that once hung outside the Oval Office. They are owned by the family of FDR’s press secretary. The title is,” So You Want to See the President!” Note the ashtray stand, also.

If You Live Near Charlotte, NC …

We’re visiting our son and I stopped in at McCranie’s. One of their original customers is moving to an assisted living facility and they are selling some of his vintage McCllellands and other tobacco that he purchased there over the years. Almost 80% of it was gone, but I got some great tins at...

Photo of Alfred Dunhill Selling Pipes During WWII After His Factory Was Destroyed

I’m sure it’s been posted here before, but after a quick search of the threads I could not find it so I thought I would post it below. Deadmanspipes posted it on eBay today with a Dunhill he was offering. Talk about resilence!

Tom Eltang Book Now Available on SP.com

Great book with a lot of photos of this Danish Pipe maker’s work. It has been out of stock for some time, but it’s now available. It’s a great read. As Tom says: “It’s good to be a pipemaker.” https://www.smokingpipes.com/accessories/books/moreinfo.cfm?product_id=327095
