    Turning down the nicotine dial

The older I get, the more sensitive to nicotine I am. Anybody else found that true for themselves? Aside from using a charcoal filter, is there any other ways to dial down the strength of a higher N blend other than smaller bowls or not holding smoke in the mouth?

Pipe Portraits: What do They Mean?

What does it mean to have a picture taken with a pipe? Why did so many of our predecessors have portraits painted or taken with a pipe in their hand or mouth. It’s a bit of a Rorschach. What do you see?

Who knows of this pipe hero?

https://cdrsalamander.substack.com/p/fullbore-friday-353 Who has heard of this gallant mayor and evident pipe smoker in France?

    Wilke Tobacco Amazingness

If you have not been to the mountain top, it is time to make the pilgrimage. I have never experienced (IMO) finer pipe tobacco. Are you experienced?

    Peterson 80s as a “clincher”

I am looking for a pipe like this: https://www.peterson.ie/pipes/premium/irish-harp/moreinfo.cfm?pd_product_Id=965 I’m not familiar with the 80S. Is it a good “walk around” pipe or is it a better couch potato. My other Peterson is a bent 317 and I like how light and clinchable it is for walks.

    Any perique growers on here?

Checking in to see if there’s any perique, or for that matter, other types of tobacco farmers on the board. I lived in a huge area for Virginia leaf, and burley which has now mostly moved to KY/TN as far as I can tell.

    Two Friends- English Chocolate

I took the advice of the illustrious @Chasing Embers and bought some to try. After a year in the cellar I finally got around to trying some. Opening the tin, Latakia was my first perception, followed by a subtle chocolate topping. The broken flake burns clean, and packed more of a wallop that...

    Sourcing Question

Moved to Discussion. Good evening everyone- have a question about sourcing older metal tubs of SWR/SWRA. Other than tinbids (there’s none on there) where can I locate some of these tubs?

    Sutliff Dark Chocolate

Who knew? Great pouch smell and a burley forward mixture with a subtle chocolate topping. Pretty good and wife likes it too!

    SWR over time

Paging Dr. @JimInks , who if I recall noted in a review that the taste of SWR is essentially unchanged with the exception of some of the 1940s production. I have read 2024 SWR has a stronger vinegar note than in years past. Is anyone else experiencing that? The 7oz can I recently opened was...

    Signs of the Tobacalypse

After the hurricane clobbered the mountains of NC and TN, I noticed one interesting fact at Ingles where pipe tobacco was sold. All tubs of SWR/SWRA were sold OUT and everything else was left.

In Praise of the Classic SWRA

Had a few hours travel today after a funeral and after the service I went to my car trunk and open up my can of SWRA. Taking the lid off of this year old, and half consumed can I could smell the surprisingly delicious notes of this well known codger blend. Sipping it brings the best flavor. And...

    Enjoying pipes in appalachia

Attaching this photo with a mountain dulcimer. My money is on that pipe being made in Sparta…it looks like a Dr Grabow “big pipe”, although I am uncertain what year they began to manufacture those.

The Role of Distinguished Lunt Pipes

I must say it. My Peterson 313, has become my most highly desired pipe when it’s time to go take a walk and enjoy a bowl. It’s light weight and effortless balance make it a favorite piece to enjoy on the move. What other pipes have proven superior in the annals of lunting as I am on the hunt...

    Pauls Aromatics

Question for those old hands. My recent shipment from Paul’s the tobacco seemed drier and with less of a topping (hardly any detectable across several blends) than I remember previously. Arrowhead was great and retained the moisture and topping I remembered but that was it. Anyone else had a...

    A Quiet Turning?

This is an anecdotal datapoint but I’m seeing more and more of my 30-40yo friends on FB with pics of them enjoying pipe tobacco. The much heralded death of this hobby may be postponed. Anybody else seeing things like this? Makes me wonder about industry numbers, and whether things are growing.
