    Selling pipes

Why not post one or two on the forum at a fixed price and see if there are any bites?

    Selling pipes

Some excellent advice on here- My own experience in selling pipes I make is that a seller with a 10,000 feedback who bought pipes from me in Chicago gets 30% more than I get auctioning pipes myself...The guys with heavy feeedback put a lot more eyeballs on the pipes....and the photography and...

What Is With All the Links To Threads Instead Of Answers?

Harris, I thought you had a 5 year sentence for that little problem with you smuggling 20 tons of tobacco out of Europe for your cellar...Damn glad you got out early! Need to get you back to the house so you can slap your toothless gums on my pipes and gripe about the lousy stemwork...:)

    Maigurs Knets "Market Info" Request

Just the block of briar would cost $100 from 2 cutters I know that could supply it. The pipe should be in the $1200-1500 range...

    1901 Kirwan- Need Some Information

Yep..,that’s what I’ve noticed- way too thick by modern standards...so, it’s a tapered stem...it will be in next week...

    1901 Kirwan- Need Some Information

I think you are correct- great information! I'm assuming I'm not committing a great travesty by converting this to a push tenon. It's an interesting pipe, but I don't think there's much value to be gained by doing a full on restoration... I'm thinking about doing the stem out of this amber...

    1901 Kirwan- Need Some Information

That helps....sounds like a push tenon with an amber colored lucite stem will be a good way to go.....Thanks!

    1901 Kirwan- Need Some Information

Just picked up this cased 1901 Kirwan for restoration on Ebay for around $71- I know absolutely nothing about Kirwans and am not finding any information online. The first question would be the missing stem- I assume the original was amber- won't know if it was threaded until the pipe arrives and...

Pipes And Cigars.... Wish Me Luck

This one is officially off the rails...some good feedback from Russ in answer to some legitimate concerns...but it’s time to close it down...

Why Buy a New Pipe After Smoking Used Estate Pipes?

What a depressing thread for a pipemaker to read....Clearly, I need to change my marketing strategy- henceforth, I shall presmoke all pipes I sell and include a nice soft leather bag and copy of my health records...:) Having said that, there's nothing like the nutty taste of high quality briar...

    Plume = Bacteria

The interesting thing is that pipe smokers accept bacteria as ok, but totally reject fungus. In winemaking, both are important- and they seem to be related to the fermentation of the sugars. It could be that we're missing out on some amazing flavors by throwing out tobacco with fungus...soooo-...

    Imported Briar

I am humbled and unworthy of such a great gesture....it would be like the time Teddy gave me a piece of briar in Chicago. The next year he asked me what I made and I had to admit I misdrilled it and destroyed the pipe...I tend to choke under pressure...:)

    Imported Briar

I stopped using briar- it's so boring. Now I use nothing but the finest bruyere...

    What About Orange Osage?

I've used it for decoration- I'm not aware of any issues with toxicity. My biggest issue is that it burns like crazy when sanding with fine grits. Let's see some pics!

    Barling 1882 Silver Spigot Windcap

Welcome to the Forum- I closed your other thread because it is a duplicate of this one...thanks, Zack

    My Pipe Won't Work Properly

Whatever you do, do not remove the stem from the pipe. The mortise will shrink and you won’t be able to get it back in. I would never use water- it swells the wood-,Pure Grain Alcohol is the best for cleaning...

Just Off The Bench- Squat Bulldog With Walrus

Without a radius, there’s a sharp edge where the draft enters the bowl. I’ve seen a few comments from people with a variety of pipes having slight cracking at that junction...don’t know if it matters much, but if the bowl is shallow enough to reach it, I trim it.

Just Off The Bench- Squat Bulldog With Walrus

Nope...have enough Oosic left for a few pipes. This was fossilized Walrus tooth...a really nice material..I put all the body parts of long dead Walrus to good use. My next variation on the next one will be a thick, hand hammered square silver band...should be a nice touch..,
