    Twist Help!

Ya just dry it more, I usually set my flakes or cut up twist out before bed and in morning it's good to go. It will dry a little less if you put it in an open jar or cup and a little more if it's spread out thinly on flat surface.

    That Blend That Changed Everything

Another lat blend story here. It was a house english blend(maybe Mr. B's?) From a tobacconist here in Vancouver. I thought it smelled like leather and said "that one!" After previous only smoking the "ladies love it" house blends, the tobacconist was like "you sure you want that?" I insisted and...

The Pipe Material You Smoke The Most

These days the cobs are winning out, but I dont have a cob for my English blends and already have some dedicated briars that work well for those. 50% cobs 30% briar 10% meer 10% clay And the odd time I'll smoke my homemade cherry woods for some of my homegrown, just seems suiting.

Are All English Blends Like This?

Yes but it can get charged duties and taxes at the border. You can look it up but i think it's around 7$ per 50g duties and then provincial tax which is $.40 per gram in BC where i live($22) per 2 oz. I think less in other provinces, but add that to the cost of the tobacco($9) and its about...

Are All English Blends Like This?

Where are you looking at for tobaccos? If it's from the outside canada then you can be hit with taxes which almost bump the price up to what we pay here in canada(most of our tobacco cost is taxes) And to answer your question. Yes that is the flavour in a nutshell, but it takes a while to pick...

If You Had to Choose Only One Tobacco

Black stoved is just another term for virginia cavendish. It can be any virginia, but the brighter yellow virginias which are often used tend to be sweeter and creamier while the darker red virginias become a little more fruity when stoved black. Yes all blender together. I have tried many...

If You Had to Choose Only One Tobacco

I only smoke whole leaf blends i make and lately my go to has been a blend with: -kentucky -stoved red virginia -black stoved bright virginia -orientals(basma and prelip) -perique Pressed into a plug of course! It covers alot of bases and progresses with a wide range of melding flavours ...

How To Home Stove Tobacco - Informational Only

Great post. Thanks for sharing. I do a lot of stoving with my whole leaf blends. Can totally transform virginia leaf to something else. Works nicely to soften a strong kentucky as well. Instead of a jar, i just use an aluminum baking tin as I don't want to risk loosing any batches from broken...

How To Home Stove Tobacco - Informational Only

Yep it works great and you get a rehydrated tobacco in hours instead of days. Can also use alcohol too instead of water to add some flavour. Using a spray bottle will help to evenly distribute the moisture and allow for less time in the oven

    Dry Tobacco

I love using black spiced rum on my whole leaf blends. Bourbon is nice too, but the spiced rum adds a similar sweetness plus vanilla, molasses and of course various spices, with one simple ingredient. I just spray it on directly, sometimes before pressing plugs or stoving to add the needed moisture.

Are You a Sloppy Pipe Smoker or a Meticulous Pipe Smoker?

Great thread! I have a shelf for tobaccos, a small plastic tub where the pipes get thrown into. I've sort of claimed one of the kitchen counters as my pipe station where I keep my stuff and mix up/cut up my whole leaf blends. Pipe cleaner after every smoke and i leave the pipe outside on the...

    Freehand Stem Issue

Yes they are top notch pipes, but definitely not everyone's bag. I wouldn't normally buy them but i bought a few pipes from a guy and he threw in a couple beat up freehands for less than 10$ each, so i said why the hell not. Glad i did!

    Freehand Stem Issue

I have a preben holm Harcourt D grade (highest grade I think) freehand. It was drilled very well, but still gathered moisture at the bottom of the bowl where it gets smaller. Nothing as bad as yours, but i drilled it out a bit(i think to 4mm) and flared out the tenon a little and it smokes much...

***What Are You Smoking, February 2021?***

Whole leaf blend. American english flake. 40% kentucky 20% latakia 10% basma 10% prelip 15% stoved red virginia 5% black stoved bright virginia This one's a keeper. Nice balance, with the strong oriental spice matching the latakia. The Kentucky forming a solid base for everything. A touch of...
