    Just Checking In

I'd start looking for other schools, in that case--but if you're willing to tough it out, more power to you Uber. Good luck!

    Looking for toasted coconut

Cornell & Diehl have a few-- #712 Coconut: Mild Dutch Cavendish sweetened with coconut flavor. #888 Almonette: An almond-coconut flavored blend of light and dark Cavendish tobaccos. #029 Craig Stark's Blend: A full blend of Burley, Cyprian Latakia, sweetened black cavendish and Perique topped...

    Question about pipe resting.

I think more pertinently, if you want fast nicotine--have a cigarette; if you want slower, meditative ritual--have a pipe. And keep it out of the fridge. :P

    1 year today

Just passed my one-year mark as well--high five lukester!

    Your thoughts on MM minnies?

I have a few MM minis, and find them quite handy. One regular and one mini stashed in my bag-that's-always-packed for when I have to jet out the door country, a couple in my desk for trying an odd blend or what have you, and a couple unsmoked for those times when an inexperienced friend comes...

If You Could Only Smoke One Brand . . .

I'd have to go with C&D as well, both for variety and quality. While my top three were from other brands, C&D make many of my "runners-up"--Manhattan Afternoon, Red Carpet, Sunday Picnic, Milk & Honey, Bayou Morning, Berry Good, Apricots & Cream...oh, I could go on.

December 2011 - What Are You Smoking?

December 2011 - What Are You Smoking?

Welcome back to the land of the smoking, JLee :puffy: I'm in love with this McCranie's Flake / blending Perique mix; soft and very sweet, musty and dank, and makes my brow sweat from the nicotine. These are all positive attributes, mind you

    New to pipe smoking

Welcome Jon. Off the top of my head: Peterson Nording Savinelli Stanwell Chacom all make very good pipes at that range. Visit any of the site sponsors (to the left of screen) and do some window shopping!

What type of finish to use on an oak pipe?

Oak has a naturally very high tannin content, and is much easier to char than briar--so you'll end up smoking plenty of wood with your tobacco, pipeturner. I wouldn't recommend it other than to practice shaping. Wood toxicity listings are readily available on the InterWebs, but they are measures...

    Top Three Favorite Baccy List

Virginia Perique Virginia  But srsly, I'd have to put Escudo, Anni Kake and Peterson Christmas 2010 as my all-times, even though the Peterson is limited to what I have cellared--take that out and I'd replace it with JackKnife Plug.

    For the Hard-Core Lovecraft Fan

That is actually a sweet pipe, loborx--but damn you for adding another name to my PAD list  Well, since it's a dedicated thread, I'll drop the picture bombs from Downie: and R'lyeh

    Layering Tobacco in the Bowl

I've gotten in the habit of layering aromatics and VaPers with alarming regularity--generally in an Oreo cookie fashion; i.e., the aromatic layered between a sandwich of VaPers. The best so far? Anniversary Kake and Cherry Bomb, or perhaps Escudo and Peterson Xmas '10. Try it, you'll like it...

    For the Hard-Core Lovecraft Fan

I'll give him an E for effort, kc--but have you seen Stephen Downie's take on the dark one? The man is truly gifted.

An Interesting Observation. Animal Reactions to Tobacco

My cats could care less what I'm smoking, for the most part. But on the flip side, I love curling up with them and smelling the aroma of the day's pipes on their fur. Little puffballs of tobacco goodness!
