Supergrain with original box: Rescue attempt

I found this Kaywoodie Supergrain in an antique shop abused, beaten, and left for dead. The grain was not so Super anymore, but it had the original box. I felt compelled to rescue it. After all, it says its the worlds finest pipe right on the box. How can you pass that up...

    Turning Beast into Beauty

I bought this Rossi Vittoria 320 new for a great deal, but it was very plane Jane. I summoned my inner MacGyver and added a little style to it. Gave it an alcohol soak and scrubbed it with 0000 steel wool, restained it medium brown, and fitted it with a 55 cent brass washer from the local...

    Wifeys gift for my B-day

Normally if friends or family say "I got you some pipe stuff", you know you're in for a treat, such as a Chinese particle board pipe and some Walgreens tobacco. Surprisingly , the lil lady did pretty well. For my birthday she bought me an old unsmoked WDC Wellington rusticated Churchwarden, a...

Cob fans: MM plaqued Freehand. Trade?

Attention cob fans I recently acquired this great gem. It is laser engraved on a cedar plaque. A handmade dark stained cob with a vulcanite stem, and hardwood bottom to prevent burnout. UNSMOKED. I would be willing to trade some tobacco for it. Send a pm if anyone is interested...

    My movie pipe recreation

Being a huge Daniel Day-Lewis fan, when the movie There Will Be Blood was released, I couldn't wait to see it. When finding out he smoked pipes in the movie, it was a bonus. There are several scenes where he smokes a pipe and has a jar of pipes on his table in a few scenes as well. I found a...

Smoking Blood Red Moon. watching eclipse

I set up the telescope this morning to watch the eclipse. I thought some Lanes Blood Red Moon would be appropriate for this rare occasion. That is a Savinelli Milano 624 KS for inquiring minds. http://pipesmagazine.com/wp-content/blogs.dir/1/files/album/10668/blood-red-moon.jpg

    Another Peterson hallmark question

I have a Peterson Rocky Donegal 268 that was my grandfathers. I've heard that the last stamping in the sterling is the year.(it is stamped Q)if that's the case, it's from 1956. Is this correct? Did they make Donegals in 1956?

    Whitehall pipes: what's your opinion?

Does anyone have Whitehall pipes, and what do you think of them? I have three whitehall pipes and I love them. Two billiards and one halfbent. They all are of high quality craftsmanship and great smokers.

    History of Vulcanite: article

© 2002 Gary B. Schrier Let’s talk about the other end of the pipe for a change. Does not the woody end of the stick get all the fuss and bother, what with grain and Birdseye and the reverential oohs and aahs? Is not the tobacco we combust for pleasure that seems most evanescent, yet treasured...

    Summertime Estate Hunting

This summer of pipe hunting at estate sales has produced many great finds. I know estate pipes are only a click away on ebay, but looking at page after page of any specific brand/style you choose , doesn't compare to the mystique of finding pipes at an estate sale. There it is, that pipe rack or...

    9/11 Never forget.

September 11 2001, a day that transformed our country more than world wars. The war on terror has brought us the Patriot Act, the N.D.A.A., Homeland security, T.S.A., and domestic spying on every level imaginable. This September, please take time to honor the victims and hero's who lost their...

    Turning trash into treasure

This is my second attempt at rusticating a pipe. This one turned pretty nice. It started out as a Medico with a smooth finish. The grain was pretty nonexistent with a few poorly disguised fills. https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=4N7l8LD47_k
