***What Are You Smoking, September 2024?***

Smoking some new Nightcap. Compared to 2015 Quiet Nights, it is some pretty solid stuff. People claim it’s got a good nicotine kick. I’d say it’s not over medium. I actually wish it had more. Love this stuff.

***What Are You Smoking, September 2024?***

Smoking 2017 Skiff. It has a brandy/Lakekand sauce to it Vs the new stuff which has not. It even has a fruity spirit smell to it while smoked. Here is the old(on left) pictured with the new. The older has more Latakia, the newer more Orientals. They are both great and in the same realm. I...

***What Are You Smoking, September 2024?***

2012 Vintage Syrian. This is one fine English blend. The Virginias are absolutely killer and at their peak. All components have sweetened and melded together as one.

2019 Director’s Cut. You won’t see me smoking too many Virginia blends here, but sometimes I want something sweet. I had no idea that I would enjoy this as much as I do. I’ve heard that the blend from back 10 years before was even better, which is crazy. This is stellar stuff.

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

After smoking a few more bowls of this blend, I have to change my opinion slightly. Many SG blends have changed in the last couple years. Whether it’s less casing/top notes or different Virginias. I have to say this older Skiff is a bit fuller of a blend. There are less Orientals, more...

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

Opened up some 2017 Skiff. This is wonderful stuff. In comparison to the new stuff(also really good stuff), the cut isn’t the shag cut, it’s mottled ribbons. The Virginia’s are of course sweeter and better. It smells as if it is soaked in brandy and some other Lakeland stuff as part of a casing...

***What Are You Smoking, September 2024?***

Smoked some match Walnut out of an old Comoys. I don’t usually smoke codger blends since SWR changed years ago. I thought I might like this one as an all day smoke. Nothing beats the lightness and anytime smokeability of those old blends. You can smoke multiple bowls back to back without any...

***What Are You Smoking, September 2024?***

Opened up another tin of Vintage Syrian, this time 2012. My last, 2008, had to be rehydrated for some reason. Yeah, it’s those damned screw on 3.5 oz tins. I don’t know why they made them like that. Don’t get me wrong, it was still really good, but just not what it should be, more mummified if...

***What Are You Smoking, September 2024?***

Never have I seen a traditional bulldog from Radice. I love it. Usually, a lot of oversized bowl bulldogs and Rhodesians.

    Mild English Blends

Samuel Gawith Skiff I like better than EMP, on some days. Peretti’s Royal is amazing. McConnell’s Oriental is a great morning smoke.

    Your Favorite Underrated Blend

Brebbia Balkan doesn’t get much talk and I find it better than most Pease blends. GL Pease Charing Cross and most Drucquer&Sons blends are the same way and are in my rotation. Now, for a brand that is well known and overrated, I actually really enjoy Margate.

***What Are You Smoking, September 2024?***

Merry Monk in a 1960 Dunhill group 2. I’ve been on a kick lately with this blend. This blend tastes like smokey-sweet plums. The nicotine is great. At first, I didn’t really care for the blend as much as I do. It was more of a change of pace Latakia blend, which it is as it’s unique. This really...

***What Are You Smoking, September 2024?***

Drucquer&Sons Merry Monk in Eric Mills cob. Lots of Perique and nicotine with Latakia :)

    Canadian Everclear Alternatives?

Another plus for rubbing alcohol 90%. Don’t use it on acrylic stems though. It doesn't leave any odor or taste. Don’t waste your booze on your pipes.

What is the Most Muscular Straight Burley Sold Today?

There’s some Kentucky in it, but Gawith and Hoggarth Dark Flake unscented is something that may interest you.

***What Are You Smoking, September 2024?***

Brebbia Balkan. I can’t get over how great this tobacco is. I’ve bought stacks and stacks of this stuff, being worried what may happen with Mac Baren. I hope it stays the same for years to come, but we know how it goes. If you like GL Pease Latakia blends, give this stuff a go. Do not let the...

***What Are You Smoking, September 2024?***

2008 Vintage Syrian. I’ve been waiting for fall to crack this one and will smoke it to Christmas. Nothing like an English blend when it gets cold. This is sublime. I have a few different years and they’re all great. This one is the oldest. As mellow as it is, the Syrian Latakia still has spunk...

    Opening A Tin? Show Us!

I’ve been waiting for it to get cold to open this 2008 Vintage Syrian. It is sublime. I’ll be stretching this to smoke throughout Christmas.

***What Are You Smoking, September 2024?***

This year’s Quiet Nights in Northern Briars. In comparison to the 2015 I have, it is less complex, sweet, and no vinegar as well as the Latakia is a little more stout as expected. Still a wonderful smoke. Honestly, the aged is a decent step up.

    Recommendations Needed On English-Aro Crossovers

Nah, that’s the Latakia with the mustyness. Like I said, not everyone will agree that it’s a crossover, but the 2024 stuff I smoked a bowl of yesterday definitely has a sweet licorice note to it, definitely not tobacco, but trying to compliment it. Has a few other spices to it too, kind of like...
