Why Is HU Directors Cut More Expensive Than Other HU Tobacco Blends?

Here’s the answer you’re looking for: the tobacco is custom produced for Kopp Tobaccos in Germany by STG in Assens, Denmark. STG has massively upped their prices (on a scale never seen before)

    Sutliff "Mixture 79" Match?

Good news for you. Mixture 79 is actually still being produced by Kopp Tobaccos in Germany (Sutliff sold the German license to them decades ago), uses the same old receipt and can be bought at Estervals here: Mixture 79 Pfeifentabak 200g Dose Estervals Pipe House -...

Seattle Pipe Club Vegas show announcement.

Mac Baren is still being produced at Mac Baren in Svendborg, for the moment.

The Sale of Mac Baren Proved Costly

My TLDR: The Danish company Halberg Group, which used to own Mac Baren Tobacco, lost about $33 million after selling the tobacco company to Scandinavian Tobacco Group (STG) in 2024. They sold Mac Baren for around $69 million, but Halberg had valued it much higher. Because of that, they had to...

    Mac Baren Wharehouse

The last tin of Syrian Latakia at Mac Baren was produced for Mac Baren Syrian Latakia in 2017/18. Per Jensen has the last tin, I own the second - to - last. After that the market moved on to Lat from Cyprus for a few years, now every manufacturer uses Latakia from Turkey (much closer to Syrian...

Jim's STG Versions of Mac Baren Blends Reviews.

FYI, I was in Svendborg on Friday, visiting my old colleagues and catching up. So far production for pipe tobacco is still up and running at the present Mac Baren facilities and everything "Mac Baren" ist still produced there under the regular staff. The original plan set in 2024 for all pipe...

Confusion on St. Bruno Ready Rubbed

Hey guys, maybe this will help: this is the raw lead used for St Bruno, I took the picture shortly before STG fired me in February. Mainly bright leaf, Kentucky and little Burley: There is no ingredient difference between the flakes and RR. The difference is the process: the cakes that are...

    Kopp Has Fancy Flake Presses

STG makes those blends. Kopp buys and tins them for various brands.

    Estate bargain-hunting in Copenhagen?

I attended the Copenhagen Pipe Show this year - which consisted of maybe about 8-10 estate sellers for the whole country. As they don't do Ebay in Denmark, check out DBA.dk

    Kopp Has Fancy Flake Presses

These are old BAT flake presses that Kopp acquired from Planta, when Planta was sold to Mac Baren. Here Kopp presses cakes a few times a year for private label blends for Germany. Kopp does not produce flakes.

    Capstan Blue

Thats true! But many of the staff and blenders will be working for STG producing the same stuff... and from what I tried of the MB/STG transition blends before I left Mac Baren, I didn't notice any differences. We'll see what happens after they shut down production at the end of the year.

    Capstan Blue

It'll be fine. STG produced Capstan long before Mac Baren did starting 2017.

My Mixture 965 new and old

Thanks! Currently I work for Kopp Tobaccos (think Robert McConnell, Rattrays, HU Tobacco, Savinelli Tobacco, Wessex, Sillems, Peter Heinrichs etc.), but I will be leaving the pipe tobacco industry at end of the month. I hope to stay active on socials (shameless plug, my instagram: theeyjay) and...

My Mixture 965 new and old

Hey, thanks for reaching out. As I was only concerned with pipe tobacco at Mac Baren as the Category Manager - not other categories, such as cigarettes or such. Meaning all I wrote is in regards to pipe tobacco - and also only my point of view, meaning from 1. a larger pipe tobacco producer, 2...

    Mac Baren Tin Dating

The 250 gram tin is still produced for select markets. It's roughly 80 % Virginia No 1 which ages superbly. I've smoked 5/10/30/60 year aged Mixture - 30 years was the best.

My Mixture 965 new and old

Absolutely. Lot of outdated knowledge and bullshit flying around the forums. Leaf has never been more readily available, with the amount of varietals, selection, nicotine/sugar varieties, grades etc than ever before (if you're able to afford and process it, which only a few do, like STG, DTM and...

Aromatics - I just need to accept it

It took me a loooong time to understand and appreciate aromatic blends. And after working in the industry for a few years... Surprise! Even non-aromatics contain 'chemicals'
