    A Newbie Obsession in Collection/Restoration

Next up - and likely last for a while as I'm packing up for my next nomad-trip (destination unknown)... A Jean Claude pipe I picked up in Vienna. This was part of the remnants of a large collection a lady was selling. Someone got to the really good stuff before me, but this and a few others...

    A Newbie Obsession in Collection/Restoration

Next one done is the 'twin' for the last one. This Adsorba is a shape #10 (v/s #11 before). The stem was more oxidized (sorry - forgot to take a photo beforehand). I decided to do an oxi-bath of 30% of 3% hydrogen peroxide in water. This is basically the same as oxyclean but without the...

    A Newbie Obsession in Collection/Restoration

I have a dremel - in storage... but I'll go with a full wheel setup. But not until I stop moving around... which could be a while. I would get one now but I don't want to lug too much around until I'm more situate. It's not a cost of complexity issue, just space.

    A Newbie Obsession in Collection/Restoration

Pipe #2 is a Adsorba 'Bruyere Extra'. It is stamped with shape '11' and is one of two 'twin' pipes I bought from a very nice man in Vienna. He was selling his small collection of pipes from his brother. Adsorba is an Italian made sub-brand of Denicotea, made for the German market. Made for...

    A Newbie Obsession in Collection/Restoration

Thanks. I did take a couple before but they really don't show much. It was in really good shape except a bit of chatter and some moderate oxidation. I can show more up-close 'before pics' in the future if that's desired. Oh, I also gave it a cotton-ball deghosting soak. It had a very mild...

    A Newbie Obsession in Collection/Restoration

Possibly at some point, but it's one of my fav's so I'll probably hang on to it for a while. I keep a spreadsheet of all my pipes and I'll put your name by it. It's stamped "Mandarin" 8537 and is already in great shape.

    A Newbie Obsession in Collection/Restoration

I can post a couple pix showing the whole collection. I took them as I was collecting. I expect it will be fairly slow-going to get thru the cleanups. Maybe I'll pick up the pace as I get seasoned. My first purchase - and perhaps one of the best with a Hardcastle and a Savinelli Punto Oro...

    A Newbie Obsession in Collection/Restoration

The first cleanup is a Red Point "Old Briar" billiard. I chose it as one of the easiest of the cleanups since it was not in bad shape. The stem had some decent oxidation and a bit of chatter. I did my best to lift the chatter with candle/bic and it got most of the way. Sanding and micromesh...

    A Newbie Obsession in Collection/Restoration

Title shortened and edited for capitals. The story begins when I went to check out the former house of a good friend. It's on 30 acres in Sheridan, Oregon. Her (long-ago) ex still lived there... until his passing a couple years ago. A horrible man, he lived alone and after his death the...

Show Off Your Foursquare / Panel Billiard Pipes!

I have a couple 'flat-edgers'. These are new-to-me Estates which I have not cleaned up yet, so no judging... First one (in the middle actually) is the true 4-panel - a Savinelli de luxe 515. The lower one is a Kaywoodie Drinkless 6-panel 7781C. I know its not a 4-panel so I make up for...

    Harper Aluminum/Radiator pipe

Hey smokers, Just curious about experience with these Harper pipes. I came across one for sale that would need some cleanup and I think it's overpriced... but maybe there is some cult following that makes them desirable/valuable. I found this about them, but not much more...

    Reamer Recommendations

Yeah, just looking for by the sheet or a 5pk. I found a site in Canada that will sell open sheets with no markup, but shipping is high. Maybe still worth it. But 3M wet paper I can get by the sheet in a local shop. Ace also has either brand which someone good probably makes, but I'd trust 3M...

I'm in the USA... but I will see. Also was trying to find the Menzerna PP and XF bars but seems they changed their product naming. Anyone know what the modern-day versions would be? I emailed them but have not heard back yet.

Yep I watched your videos and will likely get around to making some of the spade bit 'crackers' as well. Fortunately I have several pipes that don't need too much bowl-cleaning to tide me over. I did end up ordering a PipNet from AmazonUK. It will take a month to get here, but we shall see...

Yes, I will be sanding on a dowel as well, but some of the ones I got have very thick cake built up.

Just getting into restoration after picking up ~50 estape pipes while in Vienna (and adding more as I am addicted to the hunt being back in the US of A). Just gearing up to start the work, and looking at reamers. I have a Kleen Reem from "that E place" coming in a few days. I've been hunting...

    Show Off Your Kaywoodie Pipes

Just picked up a handful of Kaywoodies. They need a little cleanup but I think they were in a regular rotation and fairly well maintained. Some oxidation and chatter to clean up and some dings here and there but overall not bad. It is possible some stems and stummels got mixed up as alignment...

Considering adding another Butz to my collection

^^^ Thanks. I was just updating this thread as I found out more about it. And see how many BC freehands are floating around. Found a much cleaner version for $40 so maybe I can use that to haggle them down... but I also want to try and focus on more 'unique' pipes as I have ~40 waiting cleanup...

Considering adding another Butz to my collection

I have a few (inexpensive) Butz Choquin pipes I've picked up recently... all awaiting cleanup before I try them. I came across this one for sale today and thought I might like it. Google has told me this is a BC Chatelaine smooth freehand Dublin sitter. It's suffered from a bit too much...

Show Off Your GBD Pipes (and 2nds)

Another GBD estate I stumbled across in a vintage shop. For $5 I decided why not. I have not found anything yet on the webs about the "Ivory" line... I'll wait until I get state-side to clean it up proper, but a minute with a magic eraser and it seems the stem will go back to black. Not sure...
